Rubble in Gaza, Palestine November 2023 |
Dear Elected Leaders-
Our Congress gives 14.3 billion dollars to the Israeli killing machine, but our Congress aims to block funding UNWRA a humanitarian organization that is trying to help the victims of Israeli violence... Where is your humanity!
We have proof of Israel's violence in the rubble of Gaza and the escalating death tolls of Palestinians.
We have proof that more than 4,500 Palestinian children have been killed by Israel's war on Gaza in the past month.
We have proof that countless other Palestinian children have been
orphaned and totally traumatized just in the past month by Israel's
callous brutality.
We have proof of Israeli settler violence in the West Bank, and
Israel's long history of demolishing Palestinian homes and lives.
But claims of UNWRA's alleged ties to HAMAS are alleged- ALLEGED- not proof of anything except the nasty character of the cruel people who spread hate and lies about a persecuted and impoverished people- the indigenous non-Jewish Arab men, women, and children of historic Palestine.
Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab
NOTES
"In its 35th day of attacking Gaza, Israel has: - killed 11,025 Palestinians; 4506 of them being kids. An additional 2,700 remain trapped under rubble. - destroyed 270,00 Palestinian homes; - internally displaced 1.6 out of 2.2 million people Satisfied yet, world?.... After bombing Gaza for 36 days and killing more than 11,000 Palestinians Israel has yet to achieve a single military objective - unless of course the “military objective” is to kill, traumatize and inflict as much damage as possible." The American Postal Workers Union is shocked and saddened by the tragic and ongoing violence in Israel and Palestine. As working people, we stand with the oppressed and the innocent, thousands of whom have lost their lives in the last month.
As a union that stands for equality, social justice, human and labor rights, and international solidarity, we unite with unions and people of goodwill around the world in calls for justice and peace.
We unreservedly condemn the Hamas violence of October 7, which killed over 1,000 Israeli civilians and saw the kidnapping of more than 200 people.
However, Israel’s response has made the prospects for peace more remote. Over 10,000 innocent civilians, including 4000 children, have been killed by the relentless and indiscriminate bombing campaign on Gaza. Israel has shut off the flow of food, water, fuel and medical supplies to the Gaza Strip, a war crime. A humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding every day in Gaza. Thousands more innocent civilians stand to die wholly preventable deaths.
We call on our government, which is the primary foreign benefactor of the Israeli government, to use all its power to protect innocent lives and to help bring about peace in the region, and not use our tax dollars for more war.
We join the calls for an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, and urgently needed massive humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. The cries of humanity demand nothing less.

"Tlaib has accused Joe Biden of supporting genocide and threatened that he will lose Arab American and Muslim support in the 2024 election – triggering widespread condemnation by Republicans and many Democrats.
But Tlaib was unrepentant in her speech.
“I will not be silenced and I will not let you distort my words,” Tlaib said. “No government is beyond criticism. The idea that criticizing the government of Israel is antisemitic sets a very dangerous precedent, and it’s been used to silence diverse voices speaking up for human rights across our nation.”"

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) is a milestone document in the history of human rights. Drafted by representatives with different legal and cultural backgrounds from all regions of the world, the Declaration was proclaimed by the United Nations General Assembly in Paris on 10 December 1948 (General Assembly resolution 217 A) as a common standard of achievements for all peoples and all nations. It sets out, for the first time, fundamental human rights to be universally protected and it has been translated into over 500 languages. The UDHR is widely recognized as having inspired, and paved the way for, the adoption of more than seventy human rights treaties, applied today on a permanent basis at global and regional levels (all containing references to it in their preambles).

"Israel is waging an "extensive war of starvation" against Gaza’s civilian population.
“Israel has deliberately focused its attacks over the past few hours on targeting electrical generators and solar energy units, on which commercial facilities and restaurants depend to maintain the minimum possible level of their work,” the group said in a statement published on Sunday.
Euro-Med Monitor added that Israeli attacks have also targeted agricultural areas east of Gaza, flour stores and fishermen's boats, leaving no sources of food." ...READ MORE

by Ahed Tamini & Dena Takruri:
“What would you do if you grew up seeing your home repeatedly raided? Your parents arrested? Your mother shot? Your uncle killed? Try, for just a moment, to imagine that this was your life. How would you want the world to react?”
Ahed Tamimi is a world-renowned Palestinian activist, born and raised in the small West Bank village of Nabi Saleh, which became a center of the resistance to Israeli occupation when an illegal, Jewish-only settlement blocked off its community spring. Tamimi came of age participating in nonviolent demonstrations against this action and the occupation at large. Her global renown reached an apex in December 2017, when, at sixteen years old, she was filmed slapping an Israeli soldier who refused to leave her front yard. The video went viral, and Tamimi was arrested.
An essential addition to an important conversation, They Called Me a Lioness shows us what is at stake in this struggle and offers a fresh vision for resistance. With their unflinching, riveting storytelling, Ahed Tamimi and Dena Takruri shine a light on the humanity not just in occupied Palestine but also in the unsung lives of people struggling for freedom around the world.
