A ‘magic pill’ made Israeli violence invisible. We need to stop swallowing it- For years, I pressed Palestinian interests in peace talks. The response to Trump’s plan proves the international community hasn’t learned from catastrophe. [FACTS] by Diana Buttu in The Guardian

For two years, the world has watched as Israel has systematically destroyed the Gaza Strip, killing tens of thousands of Palestinians and maiming an untold number more. As dangerously, Israel continues to methodically target the healthcare, education, water and sewage systems to ensure that life cannot resume in the Gaza Strip.

Western governments’ responses to Israel’s actions have ranged from cheerleading and unconditional support in the first year of Israel’s attack on Gaza after 7 October 2023, followed by statements of concern and handwringing, to, more recently, occasional expressions of consternation and empty threats that continued Israeli attacks may, at some unspecified time, lead to an arms embargo or a drop in trade relations. In the last few months, there have also been the greatly celebrated proclamations of conditional recognition of a Palestinian state. The irony cannot be more profound: tepidly recognizing a state as it, and its people, are being erased without mercy.

As I write this, confusion swirls around Donald Trump’s plan to end the war and hope is mounting for a hostage and prisoner swap. While an end to the bombing, the freedom of captives on both sides and allowing humanitarian aid into Gaza would bring some relief in an otherwise unbearably bleak landscape, it would be a mistake to view the plan as a historic breakthrough for Palestine. Trump’s vision is yet another American-Israeli concoction cooked up without any input from Palestinians that would retain Israel’s perpetual control over Gaza’s future.

The world has never listened to Palestinian voices or taken seriously the existential threat Israel poses to Palestinian life, and this has not materially changed despite the increase in performative angst. To the contrary, Palestinians have for three-quarters of a century endured the world telling us that Israeli “security concerns” – however defined by Israel – are more important than our rights and lives. As a result Palestinians live with two omnipresent forms of violence: Israeli violence directly inflicted upon our bodies, land and society, and western violence, where only our erasure prompts the world to notice us and see our humanity – but only barely.... Crowds of starving men, women, and children in #Gaza wait for little food. Some people go for days without eating. UNRWA has not been able to bring in any food for over four months. Lift the siege...

To date more than 900 Palestinians have been gunned down by the Israeli army and their US proxies just trying to get something to eat.

These “aid sites” are death traps - and were designed to be such.

People are falling in the streets like tree leaves in the autumn.

Children are bones and skills, weeping for food and water.

Journalists report on starvation while tears filling their eyes.

What more atrocities does this world have to see to act? This is the darkest time ever

More children die every day in Gaza due to dehydration and malnutrition after they had been starved by the Israeli occupation! (Passed away today)

Entirely man made.

Only political will & leadership can reverse full-fledged starvation.

Are we truly committed to “never again” ?

Ramallah, Palestine - The father of Palestinian female political prisoner Shaden Qous has unexpectedly passed away in a tragic accident. Shaden, a Jerusalemite, has been held behind bars for just over a month, since 6/1/2025. She was first detained at The Russian Compound detention center (al-Mascobiyeh) where she was interrogated before being transferred to the Damon central women’s prison. She has not yet been charged with any kind of offense under Israel’s oppressive military court system, which is run by occupation soldiers. Shaden is a student at Birzeit University and a professional dancer. https://cda.gov.ps/index.php/en/commission-activities/51-slider-en/19750-occupation-denies-temporary-release-of-palestinian-female-detainee-to-mourn-father-s-death

Artists at Risk Connection (ARC) is an international organization committed to promoting and advancing the right to artistic freedom worldwide.

ARC Condemns the Arbitrary Arrest of Artist and Student Shaden Al-Qous by the Israeli Military in Occupied East Jerusalem

“Shaden is an outspoken artist and activist, known for using her art and her platforms to call for Palestinian freedom and justice,” said Julie Trébault, Executive Director of ARC. “Like her fellow artists and activists protesting the Israeli bombardment of Palestinians in Gaza and the systemic oppression of those in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, Shaden has been targeted by yet another wave of mass arrests. Young Palestinians who exercise their inherent right to freedom of expression are routinely targeted by the Israeli military in an attempt to instill fear and silence them. As an Afro-Palestinian artist and aspiring lawyer, her arrest exposes the Israeli authorities clamping down on diverse Palestinian voices, particularly when they challenge preconceived notions and simplistic narratives of identity. ARC strongly condemns the arrest and calls for Shaden’s immediate release.”

Shaden is a 27-year-old dancer with the El Funoun Palestinian Popular Dance Troupe, whose mission is to revive and disseminate Palestinian folk dance and songs in schools and community centers all over the world. Aside from traditional Palestinian dabke, Shaden is known for her Afro-Palestinian dance, a unique fusion that merges elements of West African and Levantine folk dance traditions. In February 2024, Shaden was interviewed on Al-Jazeera’s AJ Stream program, where she spoke about her Afro-Palestinian community, whose presence in the Old City of Jerusalem dates back to the British Mandate, and the routine “double-harassment” it faces at the intersection of Black and Palestinian identities. She highlighted the impact of Israeli occupation and the effect of social media censorship by Israeli authorities and social media platforms, with her arrest showing a clear example of non-violent resistance being targeted.   https://artistsatriskconnection.org/story/afro-palestinian-artist-and-activist-arrested-by-israeli-authorities

This Week in Palestine December 2024: The War of the Narratives by Sani P. Meo

"... TWiP was initially intended to be a guide for tourists and pilgrims, offering them information on where to go and what to do while visiting the Holy Land. That was back in late 1998 and 1999. By the year 2000, TWiP had started to emerge as a voice for Palestine, promoting it in the best way possible, advocating for its rights and cause, and bringing out the best in Palestine.

The history of This Week in Palestine was published in an article in the June 2022 issue themed “Palestinian Archives” – in my opinion, one of the most powerful editions. The article, “TWiP: An Inadvertent Archive,” offers an in-depth exploration of the wonderful journey of This Week in Palestine that has included every single human emotion one can imagine.

However harsh this year has been on the Palestinian people, it has also been an excellent one for This Week in Palestine, at least from the standpoint of popularity and credibility. During the past year there has been a surge of around 350 percent in TWiP’s readership, which is understandable because of the grace of Gaza and the fact that people around the world want to know more about Palestine. Thanks to the young generation who by using social media have brought the question of Palestine to the international stage. It’s worth noting that this keen interest in Palestine, translated through millions of pro-Palestine posts on various social platforms, has come with a price. It has irked mainstream media and sent it on a frantic journey to debunk the Palestinian narrative. As TWiP turns 26, the war between the Palestinian narrative or story and that of the Zionists is reaching a peak.

In her article “Working with the British Media on Gaza,” published in the May 2024 issue of TWiP, Leila Sansour lists a few tactics that the Western political establishments use against the Palestinian narrative: “…from the willful choice of always starting history on October 7 and disregarding all the voices that have painstakingly pointed out the flaws in this approach, to denying Palestinians the right to comment on just about anything that concerns their plight.”..... "Of course Israel deliberately killed @WCKitchen workers and of course the kitchen will halt its operations in Gaza. That’s exactly what Israel wants….to further starve Palestinians." Diana Buttu

United States-based aid group World Central Kitchen (WCK) confirmed on Tuesday that its staff members were killed in a “targeted attack” by the Israeli military. The dead were from Palestine, Australia, Poland, the United Kingdom, and US-Canada.

Today lost several of our sisters and brothers in an IDF air strike in Gaza. I am heartbroken and grieving for their families and friends and our whole WCK family. These are people…angels…I served alongside in Ukraine, Gaza, Turkey, Morocco, Bahamas, Indonesia. They are not faceless…they are not nameless. The Israeli government needs to stop this indiscriminate killing. It needs to stop restricting humanitarian aid, stop killing civilians and aid workers, and stop using food as a weapon. No more innocent lives lost. Peace starts with our shared humanity. It needs to start now.

 Diana Buttu

Of course Israel deliberately killed workers and of course the kitchen will halt its operations in Gaza. That’s exactly what Israel wants….to further starve Palestinians.

For context before killing 7 aid workers last night, Israel’s been accused multiple times of bombing aid convoys in Gaza (despite coordination). In Feb said one of its food convoys was hit by naval shell as it prepped to go north UN has reported multiple incidents

If anyone is waiting for a “thorough and transparent investigation,” they are thoroughly mislead in their belief that this was a mistake. There is no mistake for these people when it comes to targeting civilians, international aid workers, or even clouds that shade for our roofless houses or tents.

If you're shocked that 7 food aid workers were killed, wait until you hear about the murders of Palestinian journalists, doctors, nurses, teachers, ambulance drivers, mothers, fathers, and the children the children the children #ceasefirenow

Munition dropped right through the World Central Kitchen logo
Reminds me of this, when Israel struck a Red Cross ambulance in Lebanon in 2006 right in the logo. There is a series of such images.

World Central Kitchen pauses Gaza operations after workers killed in airstrike

The organization said its workers had been traveling in a "deconflicted zone" in two armored cars carrying the WCK logo and a soft skin vehicle. It said that despite organizing travel with the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the convoy was hit as it was leaving a warehouse in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza.

Don't use our hard earned tax dollars for more injustice and war

Rubble in Gaza, Palestine November 2023

Dear Elected Leaders-

Our Congress gives 14.3 billion dollars to the Israeli killing machine, but our Congress aims to block funding UNWRA a humanitarian organization that is trying to help the victims of Israeli violence...  Where is your humanity!

We have proof of Israel's violence in the rubble of Gaza and the escalating death tolls of Palestinians.

We have proof that more than 4,500 Palestinian children have been killed by Israel's war on Gaza in the past month.

We have proof that countless other Palestinian children have been orphaned and totally traumatized just in the past month by Israel's callous brutality.

We have proof of Israeli settler violence in the West Bank, and Israel's long history of demolishing Palestinian homes and lives.

But claims of UNWRA's alleged ties to HAMAS are alleged- ALLEGED- not proof of anything except the nasty character of the cruel people who spread hate and lies about a persecuted and impoverished people- the indigenous non-Jewish Arab men, women, and children of historic Palestine.

Sincerely,

Anne Selden Annab

NOTES

"In its 35th day of attacking Gaza, Israel has: - killed 11,025 Palestinians; 4506 of them being kids. An additional 2,700 remain trapped under rubble. - destroyed 270,00 Palestinian homes; - internally displaced 1.6 out of 2.2 million people Satisfied yet, world?....  After bombing Gaza for 36 days and killing more than 11,000 Palestinians Israel has yet to achieve a single military objective - unless of course the “military objective” is to kill, traumatize and inflict as much damage as possible."
