Voice of Rabbis "The recent military operations conducted by the State of Israel are strictly political and governmental maneuvers. They do not represent the Jewish people, nor are they sanctioned by the Holy Torah. Authentic Judaism is a covenant of Divine service and the sanctity of human life; the Torah does not authorize the waging of war under the banner of the Jewish name. The true protection of the Jewish nation rests solely upon Divine Providence, not upon the fleeting strength of human weaponry or secular military power. We categorically reject the claim of those who call themselves the “Jewish State” to act on behalf of world Jewry. For two millennia, the Jewish people have lived in exile by Divine decree, guided by a tradition of patience and peaceful conduct among the nations. .."

PUBLIC STATEMENT Regarding Israeli Military Action Against Iran

The Voice of Rabbis issues the following declaration:

The recent military operations conducted by the State of Israel are strictly political and governmental maneuvers.

We pray for de-escalation, for the protection of all innocent lives, and for the day when true peace will prevail throughout the world, as the Prophet declares:

“I will banish bow and sword and war from the land, and I will let them lie down in safety.” (Hosea 2:20)

Jewish Voice for Peace denounces the immoral and illegal war on Iran launched by the United States and Israel last night.

These attacks expand the endless wars that could destroy the lives of tens of millions of people.  We stand in solidarity with the people of Iran and against the U.S. and Israeli government’s imperial warmongering.

"Everything must be done to prevent a further escalation in the Middle East. I call on all sides to strictly uphold their obligations under international law, including the United Nations Charter, protect civilians & ensure nuclear safety. Let’s act responsibly & together to pull the region & our world back from the brink." António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations

 António Guterres

I condemn the military escalation in the Middle East today.

The strikes by the US & Israel against Iran & the subsequent attacks by Iran undermine international security.

These actions carry the risk of igniting a chain of events that no one can control in the most volatile region of the world.

Lasting peace can only be achieved through peaceful means, including genuine dialogue and negotiations.

The United Nations Charter provides the foundation for the maintenance of international peace & security.

Everything must be done to prevent a further escalation in the Middle East.

I call on all sides to strictly uphold their obligations under international law, including the @United Nations Charter, protect civilians & ensure nuclear safety.

Let’s act responsibly & together to pull the region & our world back from the brink.

"His [Trump's] escalation against Iran comes as he faces mounting domestic pressure, for attacking the civil rights of US citizens in Minneapolis, amid renewed scrutiny surrounding the Epstein files, and just days after the US supreme court struck down the legal justification for his global tariff policy." Trump wants to distract Americans from scandals at home with a diversionary war

Iran strikes are attempt to hijack the global narrative and drown out Epstein and tariffs with the thunder of cruise missiles

In 2003, the United States invaded Iraq without deciding whether it should. The George W Bush administration failed to ask whether the costs, risks and likely consequences of regime change justified the gamble. The result was tragedy – for Iraq, for the Middle East and for America.

Donald Trump’s attack on Iran now follows the same pattern – but with an even narrower logic of performative power. In the run-up to Iraq, Washington devoted enormous energy to planning the invasion. Almost no attention was given to the more important question: was war necessary, and could it realistically produce a stable political outcome?

Now history is repeating itself. Having torn up the Iran nuclear deal and escalated pressure, the president has now initiated a military campaign explicitly aimed at regime collapse. Yet there has been no serious public reckoning with the risks, much less the plausibility of the political end state he claims to seek. By weaponising the military for the sake of the attention economy, Washington has traded grand strategy for the immediate gratification of the news cycle.

This is because the outcome of the war is less important to Trump than violent conflict with America’s enemy and the performative use of US power.

Trump’s foreign policy is not guided by a coherent theory of order, deterrence or alliance management. It is driven instead by the demonstration of dominance, the creation of spectacle and the command of the news cycle. Military force, in this framework, is not a tool subordinated to strategy. It is the strategy.

His escalation against Iran comes as he faces mounting domestic... READ MORE https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/feb/28/diversionary-war-trump-wants-to-distract-americans-from-scandals-at-home?CMP=share_btn_url
