Dear America- Centuries before America's Declaration of Independence in 1776 (and our subsequent Bill of Rights)- in 1095 the First Crusade was proclaimed by Pope Urban II— with a call to arms for Christians to reconquer Jerusalem from the Muslims.

letter I just sent to my elected leaders-

Dear America,

Centuries before America's Declaration of Independence in 1776 (and our subsequent Bill of Rights)- in 1095 the First Crusade was proclaimed by Pope Urban II— with a call to arms for Christians to reconquer Jerusalem from the Muslims.

The most recent Western Crusade against Muslims is the surprise War on Iran, waged this year by Israel, Trump and Hegseth.

Governments arming religion convince naive subjects and citizens to insult, harass, hate, impoverish, and eventually kill targeted "others". It is a quick and easy way for elected and non-elected leaders to gain political power and money, as well as a savvy but cruel way to silence objections to such antics.

Britain's ludicrous Balfour Declaration of 1917 set into motion the Western Crusade that is today's modern man-made Israel. American tax money and many private donations fund & arm Israel- a very foreign country that determines freedom and rights by religion.

I firmly believe in freedom of religion- and freedom from religion.  Growing up in a democracy that has been free to become a more real democracy with respect and security for more and more people since our Declaration of Independence in 1776, I believe that Israel has a right to exist BUT Israel has no right to be pushing the indigenous non-Jewish Palestinians into poverty and forced exile.

Israel uses violence as well as law-fare to persecute, impoverish, and displace Palestinians.

Slavery was legal and supported by many people worldwide for generations. Now we know better.

Americans have every right to notice and object to our hard earned money being used to wage religious wars in far-away lands.

Please respect our troops, as well as our technology, by honoring our heritage and our shared planet earth- keep us safe from religious idiots and zealots yearning for End Times or whatever as a way to usurp land and resources from others.

Reinvest in The United Nations, universal human rights, the rule of fair and just laws, and diplomacy- for everyone's sake.

Sincerely,

Anne Selden Annab

Dear America - Please stop funding and fueling Israel's wars and the ongoing destruction of historic Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria... and Iran.

War and terrorism are for tyrants, not for freedom or justice. Bully tactics teach all the wrong lessons.

Billionaires want Ballrooms. The rest of us want clean water; safe neighborhoods; good schools, libraries, & museums; National Parks; playgrounds; PBS; good job opportunities for ourselves and our children; affordable heath-care; AND PEACE.

Funding and arming terrorism and violence is evil and wrong: America should not be funding, arming, defending, or trusting today's Israel in any way, shape or form.

Secretary-General's joint press encounter with H.E. Mr. António Costa, President of the European Council

Press events | António Guterres, Secretary-General

Ladies and gentlemen of the press,

Let me start by two clear messages.

First, to the United States and to Israel:

It’s high time to end this war that is risking to get completely out of control, causing immense suffering on civilians and with propagation around the global economy, that is really dramatic with potential tragic consequences, especially for the least developed countries.

Second message, to Iran:

Stop attacking your neighbours; they were never parties to the conflict.

The Security Council has condemned these attacks, has ordered them to stop, as it has ordered to open the Strait of Hormuz.

The prolonged closure of the Strait of Hormuz causes enormous pain in so many people around the world that have nothing to do with this conflict.

It’s time for the force of the law to prevail over the law of the force. It’s time for diplomacy to prevail over war.

I want, naturally, to say that I’m extremely grateful for this invitation.

The European Union and the United Nations have exemplary cooperation, and the European Union has been a fundamental support for the UN and for multilateralism.

And I hope, I’m sure, the European Union will be absolutely central in the efforts to create an international order based on the rule of law, an international order in which we will have more justice, in which we will have more climate action, in which we will have more control of the evolution of technologies and in which international law will prevail.

Thank you very much.

Sat 21 Mar 2026

This month I will conclude my tenure as the commissioner-general of Unrwa – the United Nations agency that has provided essential, public-like services to Palestinian refugees across the Middle East for more than 75 years. As the world struggles to emerge from the quagmire of Gaza and the US-Israeli war against Iran threatens to engulf the entire region, I am profoundly concerned about the future of Palestinian refugees and the multilateral system at large.

Having endured more than two years of relentless physical, political and legal attacks, most fiercely in Palestine, Unrwa has reached breaking point. The risks to Palestinians’ rights and the stability of the region are immense.

In December 2023, amid the escalating brutality of the war in Gaza, I wrote to the president of the UN general assembly that in my 35 years of working in complex emergencies, I had never had cause to report the killing of 130 personnel, nor to predict the killing of many more. I did not imagine then that the number of colleagues killed would triple – the death toll is now more than 390 – or that so many others would sustain life-changing injuries, or be arbitrarily detained and tortured.

Hundreds of Unrwa premises in Gaza have been damaged or destroyed. The parliament of Israel adopted legislation to end the agency’s presence in occupied East Jerusalem, including by forcibly shutting schools and health clinics, and cutting off the supply of water and electricity to our premises. The Unrwa headquarters in East Jerusalem was seized, looted and set on fire, with senior Israeli officials celebrating the destruction on site and online. A deputy mayor of Jerusalem even threatened to “annihilate and kill all members of Unrwa”.

It is incomprehensible that a UN entity has been allowed to be crushed as Unrwa has, in violation of international law, with total impunity... READ MORE  https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/mar/21/israel-crushed-unrwa-gaza-palestinians-middle-east

D.C.’s decency deficit is costing Americans more than money | John Baer

We’re entering the second spring of “The Golden Age” promised by President Donald Trump at his second inaugural last year.

We’re in a foreign war (or as Trump calls it, “a little excursion”) that he pledged we would not get into. As a result, the economy, energy prices and geopolitical tensions are, let’s just say, providing some instability.

The first two weeks of the war cost the lives of 13 U.S. service members and $12 billion. Time reports that’s enough to fund child care for 900,000 children, or health care for 1.3 million people, or more than 100,000 new teachers or nurses, or the entire National Park Service.

Nearly six of 10 Americans (57%), according to the Real Clear Politics average of major polls, see the country moving in the wrong direction.

On top of all that, official Washington is disregarding decency, a minimal need for a sustainable society, and playing footsy with the truth.

An example of action devoid of decency is having fun promoting the war on social media. The White House, Pentagon and U.S. Central Command posted videos mixing actual war scenes with clips from violent video games such as “Call of Duty” and “Grand Theft Auto,” and blues artist John Lee Hooker’s song “Boom Boom” (opening lyric: “Boom, boom, boom, boom. I’m gonna shoot you right down.”)

There also are film clips featuring maxi-macho stuff: “Superman,” “Top Gun,” “Ironman.” And, with images of planes and buildings being blown up, presumably by American bombs, the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants asking, “You wanna see me do it again?”

One wonders what family and friends of killed-in-action service members think of treating the war like a video game. And there’s the broader issue. The Archbishop of Chicago, Cardinal Blasé Cupich, said, “Our government is treating the suffering of the Iranian people as a backdrop for our own entertainment, as if it’s just another piece of content to be swiped while we’re waiting in line at the grocery store… READ MORE

Dear America - Please stop funding and fueling Israel's wars and the ongoing destruction of historic Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria... and Iran.

letter I just sent my elected leaders

Dear America,

Life is not a Hollywood movie or a video game where sides are clear and "The End" means it is actually over:  Real life is quite complex, interconnected, and ongoing...  In real life there is no "The End" until all life on earth is gone.

The rule of fair and just laws, as well as charity for those in need, helps protect our planet and our future- for everyone's sake.

Operation Epic Fury makes America look bad- and be bad.

We should know better. We should be better.

After the horrors and widespread devastation of WWII, the world came together to form the United Nations & the Universal Declaration of Human Rights... Universal means inclusive- including everyone, even people you do not like or understand.

International law combined with diplomacy and dialogue won the day in 1945, shaping more prosperity & security for more and more people worldwide for decades.

That was then- this in now:  Idolizing Israel and/or war is not good for anyone- except for the political racketeers, religious fraudsters, and corporate scoundrels who profit from greed and corruption.

Tyranny and injustice are on the rise right here in America, and all that our forefathers fought to help think through and build is at risk.

The preemptive demolition of the East Wing of our White House foreshadows our democracy's fate and future if we don't change course ASAP.

Please stop funding and fueling Israel's wars and the ongoing destruction of historic Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria... and Iran.

Our taxes should be used for the greater good of more people- not for escalating war and cruelty.  The people's needs here at home, and the people's needs globally should be our highest priority.

We are all in this together, regardless of what language we speak, or where we live and dream.

Sincerely,

Anne Selden Annab

Do Not Let Palestinian Christians Become a Memory of the Past: The last entirely Christian village in the West Bank, Taybeh, east of Ramallah, has been enduring a wave of attacks and intimidation by Israeli settlers. Hostile acts include setting fire to agricultural lands, cars and the walls of an ancient church, hateful and threatening graffiti, livestock released into the village, not to mention the numerous military checkpoints at the entrances to the town.

MIFTAH: In Gaza, bearing witness has become a deadly act. Those who document the truth are targeted, while the world fails to hold Israel accountable for its crimes.

So the State Department used an emergency authority to give Israel $650 million in 500lb, 1000lb, and Small Diameter bombs. What happens next?

LET AID INTO GAZA: People in Gaza are still living in dire conditions while humanitarian aid is being blocked. It’s time to invest in the architecture of peace, not the tools of war. That means living up to disarmament obligations. Rebuilding trust. And strengthening the systems and tools that prevent the proliferation, testing and use of deadly weapons. Together, we can prevent catastrophes and ensure a safe and peaceful world for all.

Fr. Gabriel Romanelli, parish priest of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Gaza, says the ongoing border closures have pushed civilians “to the limit of their strength.” With no electricity, scarce water, unaffordable food, and medical evacuations blocked, he warns: “We cannot go on like this. It is not humane.”

"The war launched against Iran by the United States and Israel is a war of choice and of hubris. There is scarcely even the pretence that it was compelled by evidence of an Iranian dash for a bomb or an imminent attack. Such claims do not survive scrutiny; they barely withstand repetition. We are witnessing the realisation of a long-cherished ambition, a neoconservative fever dream that Benjamin Netanyahu has lobbied for, in one form or another, for decades." Eskandar Sadeghi-Boroujerdi

Spain’s MEP Irene Montero: “No woman has ever been freed by American bombs or illegal aggression. Not in Syria. Not in Iraq. Not in Lebanon. Not in Afghanistan. And it will not happen in Iran either. They hide behind women’s rights to justify their colonial wars.”

“The Middle East has become the deadliest place in the world: - to be a medical worker - to be a humanitarian - to be a UN team member - to be a journalist & one of the deadliest to be a civilian. This cannot be normalised. International humanitarian law matters. Accountability matters.” Philippe Lazzarini of UNRWA

B'Tselem: Since 10 October 2025, when the so-called ceasefire was announced, the Israeli army have killed 631 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The international community is enabling Israel’s policies and the ongoing genocide. The genocide in Gaza is not over.

The consequences of urban warfare cannot easily be reversed. Under international humanitarian law, parties to conflict must take all feasible precautions to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.

"US military commanders have been invoking extremist Christian rhetoric about biblical “end times” to justify involvement in the Iran war to troops, according to complaints made to a watchdog group..."

‘We’ll run out of food this week’: Israel’s Iran war brings new Gaza siege: “I don’t have enough money to buy and store food before prices increase, as some others have done,” said Um Mohammed Hijazi, a 49-year-old mother of five. The family home was destroyed in the war and they were displaced five times.

Christianity has been central to Palestine’s political imagination, cultural production and moral vocabulary. It is precisely this reality that Israel and its Christian Zionist patrons seek to obscure
