Nancy's letter to her condescending representatives in America-
Based upon the condescending response I received from Alex Padilla, I doubt any of you know anything about Palestine. The October 7 attack did not occur in a vacuum, nor was it unprovoked. Israel is continuing its ethnic cleansing of the indigenous people of Palestine, which started in 1948, when 750,000 Palestinians were ethnically cleansed and to ensure they didn't return to their homes, their villages, more than 400 were bombed out of existence from the racist, colonialist European invaders. What's happening in Gaza now is worse; the Israelis are making Gaza uninhabitable so that the people will leave even after a ceasefire, and the colonialists will have succeeded in attaining more land so that Russians, Americans, etc. may have dual citizenship. Then it's going to happen in the so-called West Bank, from where I come, a Palestinian Christian, by the way, if that makes you more empathetic to our plight. Currently, the crazed colonialist settlers from the US and Europe are gunning down Palestinian farmers in the West Bank as they harvest their olive trees.
In light of the ongoing humanitarian crisis and war, I ask that you support the bicameral letter to DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, requesting the designation of the Palestinian territories for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and/or authorize Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Palestinians present in the United States.
According to Gaza’s Ministry of Health, as of October 29, at least 8,000 Palestinians have been killed. This includes more than 3,300 children, which, according to Save the Children, is more than the number of children killed in all of the world’s armed conflicts on an annual basis since 2019. The United Nations reports that 1.4 million of Gaza’s population of 2.2. million have been displaced of which “[s]ome 629,000 internally displaced people (IDPs) are sheltering in 150 UNRWA [United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East] installations across the Gaza Strip.” Further, the Gaza Ministry of Housing reports that at least 42 percent of all housing units in the Gaza Strip have been damaged or destroyed since October 7, calling into question the ability of Palestinians to return to their homes. Thousands are unable to access clean water and nutrition; access to medical care has become increasingly difficult, with some health facilities in Gaza hit by bombardment and many others crippled by a lack of fuel for electricity. In the West Bank, protests and settler violence have resulted in the deaths of more than 100 Palestinians and the forcible displacement of hundreds more.
I encourage you to sign on and support the bicameral call for TPS [Temporary Protected Status (TPS)] and DED [Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) is a discretionary protection status]. This will go a long way in protecting Palestinians currently in the U.S.
