Britain and the Nakba: A history of betrayal- An unbroken thread of duplicity, mendacity and chicanery connects British foreign policy from Balfour to the Nakba to the present day

Rutgers graduation speaker canceled for pro-Palestinian posts says decision sends ‘dangerous’ message

Rami Elghandour tells Guardian in exclusive interview his speech was cancelled due to students’ complaints

Rutgers University abruptly rescinded its invitation to a prominent alum who was slated to deliver a graduation speech next week after some students complained about social media posts he had published about Palestine.

Rami Elghandour – a tech entrepreneur, graduate of Rutgers’ School of Engineering, and executive producer of the Oscar-nominated film The Voice of Hind Rajab – was set to deliver a graduation address at the school’s campus in New Brunswick, New Jersey on 15 May.

But the school’s dean, Alberto CuitiƱo, called Elghandour last week and told him he was cancelling the speech because of students’ complaints, though he declined to say how many students and what posts they had complained about. The dean, Elghandour said, broadly described the posts as “opposed to their beliefs”.

“What is most puzzling to me is that they champion me for my humanitarian views and now they’re canceling me for them,” Elghandour told the Guardian in an exclusive interview... READ MORE  https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/may/06/rutgers-cancel-graduation-speech-pro-palestine-post

Dear America- Israel has a right to exist, but Israel has no right to starve and displace the men, women and children of historic Palestine.

š…š¢š„š¢š®š¬ š“šžš«š«šššž š’ššš§šœššššž ♱
letter I just sent to my elected leaders

Dear America,

I am a Christian, born and raised to love and to care for others.

As a Christian, and an American, I firmly object to the corporate greed and corruption that are destroying America's democracy.

Furthermore, as a Christian and an educated human being, I object to our elected leaders funding and arming Israeli bigotry and injustice with America's wealth and weaponry.

We give billions and billions of dollars to Israel annually, while many Americans can't afford to feed their own children.

As a Christian who has been married to a Muslim man for decades, a good man who treats me well and has worked hard to take care of our family, I also vehemently object to the bigotry and injustice being fomented here in America, and in Israel, against Arab Christians, Muslims, and Jews.

I grew up in the 1960s in an America when full equality and legal respect for Blacks was a new thing.  I was very lucky because my mother, my church, and my school all promoted diversity- an end to segregation, and an end to racist hate and injustice.  I went to school with all types of people, every religion and color, and we learned to get along.  Diplomacy matters... and so does international law.

FYI Israel has been violating international law in multiple ways time and time again.

International law was created because of the horrors of the Nazi Holocaust.  After WWII the United Nations & the Universal Declaration of Human Rights made it clear how to build a better future for all people.

Israel used international law to gain power, and Israel is now is actively sabotaging international law- especially UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.  https://www.unrwa.org/unrwa-claims-versus-facts-2025

Israel's puppets in America's Congress have cut funds to UNRWA and to UNESCO.  Meanwhile Israel's current cat's-paw Trump has cut U.S. aid projects internationally and also cut programs for America's children, while generously supplying the Zionist empire with oodles of lethal weaponry and political support.

Israel is not a Christmas Carol or the answer to a prayer:  Israel is a heavily armed, home demolition, job destroying propaganda savvy killing machine.

Israel insists on arming bigotry and funding religious extremism. There are no borders to stop Israeli aggression and land grabs. Israel steals land and peace from indigenous Arabs, including Indigenous Christians in the land of Jesus Christ's birth.

Israel has a right to exist, but Israel has no right to starve and displace the men, women and children of historic Palestine.

Sincerely,

Anne Selden Annab

Children attending UNRWA temporary learning spaces in Gaza express their joy at learning in person and their hope that it will last. While most schools have been damaged or still host displaced families, UNRWA was able to quickly re-open 38 new temporary learning spaces in Khan Younis between September and October 2025. This has more than doubled the number of children reached through in-person learning compared to August levels. All children should be able to go to school. #UNRWAworks

"Across Palestine, the olive trees are disappearing, burned, cut, and uprooted by Israeli settlers, often under military protection. In Gaza, tens of thousands of dunums of farmland have been leveled, destroying nearly a million olive trees, some that had stood for centuries. Families are attacked or blocked from reaching their groves, their livelihoods erased before their eyes. Yet every year, people still go to harvest, even among the ashes and stumps, to remember that the land is theirs. When the trees are gone, they still reach, as an act of resistance." "In September, 2023—just before October 7th—the United Nations published a report about a spike in Israeli ethnic cleansing of Palestinian communities in the West Bank. During the past two years, we’ve seen the situation in the West Bank get even worse. Tens of thousands of Palestinians have been pushed out of refugee camps. And dozens of Palestinian pastoral communities have been wiped off the map. Their inhabitants have been forced off their land by a combination of settlers and the Army, which are often indistinguishable from each other. So when we’re talking about ethnic cleansing, or an Israeli desire for ethnic cleansing, we shouldn’t talk about it purely in this future hypothetical way. It’s happening on a smaller scale every day." Isaac Chotiner

"There are now, as the historian Rashid Khalidi has put it, “two peoples in Palestine, irrespective of how they came into being”, and their “mutual acceptance can only be based on complete equality of rights”. If that sounds utopian, it is largely because of the decay of political leadership in both Israel and Palestine. Whatever happens with the Trump plan, no amount of bulldozer diplomacy or external governance will alter that." Kenan Malik

Humanitarian principles & UNRWA

UNRWA has the reach, network, and trust to deliver lifesaving aid directly to people in need across Gaza. To meet urgent needs, let UNRWA bring in its aid to Gaza at scale. Let them do their job.

"I am honored to announce that for the first time ever, Palestine will be represented at Miss Universe.
Today, I step onto the Miss Universe stage not just with a title—but with a truth. šŸ‡µšŸ‡ø
As Palestine endures heartbreak—especially in Gaza—I carry the voice of a people who refuse to be silenced.
I represent every Palestinian woman and child whose strength the world needs to see.
We are more than our suffering—we are resilience, hope, and the heartbeat of a homeland that lives on through us."

'Miss Palestine' to debut at Miss Universe 2025 beauty contest

Palestine will be represented at Miss Universe for the first time this year, with Nadeen Ayoub confirmed as the country's contestant for the 74th edition of the global pageant.

The event is scheduled to take place on 21 November in Pak Kret, Thailand.

Ayoub, who was crowned Miss Palestine in 2022, made the announcement on social media on Wednesday, sharing a photograph of herself in a traditional tatreez-embroidered dress by Palestinian designer Hiba Abdelkarim. The designer’s work has been worn by prominent figures, including Jordan’s Queen Rania.

In 2022, Ayoub became the first Palestinian to compete at Miss Earth, where she finished among the top five finalists. She said her decision to delay participating in Miss Universe until now was shaped by the humanitarian crisis at home.

"I am proud to walk this path, especially in this time, when we all need to be a voice for Palestine,” she told The National.

"I want to show the world that Palestinian women are not only resilient and beautiful, but are also leaders, innovators and changemakers," she said.

"As Palestine endures heartbreak, especially in Gaza. I carry the voice of a people who refuse to be silenced. We are more than our suffering, we are resilience, hope and the heartbeat of a homeland that lives on through us."

Raised between Palestine, the US and Canada, Ayoub holds degrees in literature and psychology and is a certified wellness and nutrition coach.

Since 2022, she has worked closely with Sayidat Falasteen, the philanthropic and media initiative of the Miss Palestine Organisation, which amplifies women’s voices in Palestine and the diaspora, supports their businesses, and highlights their impact.

She is also the founder of Olive Green Academy, which promotes sustainability and environmental awareness. Through the academy, she helps Palestinian women train in digital media and environmental advocacy, supporting them to launch sustainable enterprises and act as climate ambassadors.  https://www.newarab.com/news/miss-palestine-debut-miss-universe-2025-beauty-contest

Nadeen Ayoub: Passionate humanitarian making history as Miss Palestine

February 13, 2023
“We as Palestinians have such a rich culture and the Arab world, in general, has a lot to offer. I think it’s amazing to have the chance to represent that…and I don’t take it lightly,” is how Nadeen Ayoub, or Miss Palestine, describes her drive to compete in international pageantry and represent Palestine.

Mob of Orthodox Jewish men chases woman after protest at Brooklyn synagogue

Woman, who requested anonymity, says ‘a group of 100 men’ followed her, shouting threats and kicking her

A Brooklyn woman said she feared for her life as she was chased, kicked, spit at and pelted with objects by a mob of Orthodox Jewish men who mistook her as a participant in a protest against Israel’s far-right security minister.

The assault, recorded by a bystander, unfolded on Thursday near the global headquarters of the Chabad Lubavitch movement in Crown Heights, where an appearance by Itamar Ben-Gvir set off clashes between pro-Palestinian activists and members of the neighborhood’s large Orthodox Jewish community.

The woman, a neighborhood resident in her 30s, told the Associated Press she learned of the protest after hearing police helicopters over her apartment. She walked over to investigate around 10.30pm but by then the protest had mostly dispersed. Not wanting to be filmed, she covered her face with a scarf.

“As soon as I pulled up my scarf, a group of 100 men came over immediately and encircled me,” said the woman, who spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity because she feared for her safety.

“They were shouting at me, threatening to rape me, chanting ‘death to Arabs’. I thought the police would protect me from the mob, but they did nothing to intervene,” she said.

As the chants grew in intensity, a lone police officer tried to escort her to safety. They were followed for blocks by hundreds of men and boys jeering in Hebrew and English.

Video shows two of the men kicking her in the back, another hurling a traffic cone at her head and a fourth pushing a trash can into her. “This is America,” one of the men can be heard saying. “We got Israel. We got an army now.”... READ MORE https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/apr/28/mob-orthodox-jewish-men-chases-woman

Please do not demonize and silence or destroy people who speak out peacefully against corruption, injustice, racism, bigotry, and violence of every type.

Semitic languages
 Dear America ,

Criticizing Israel is not Anti-Semitic.  Semites speak Semitic languages. Palestinians are Semites, but they are erased and excluded from the definition of Anti-Semitism...

Palestinians are also being erased, excluded, and silenced by Israeli efforts to seize Palestinian land, rights, peace, and the story itself.

We know about Anti-Semitism because of the crimes against humanity committed by Nazis who were taught to hate Jewish people and others.

The first prosecution for crimes against humanity took place during the Nuremberg trials (1945-1946) against defeated leaders of Nazi Germany, laying the ground work for modern international law.

Nazis had been brainwashed by toxic propaganda to hate Jewish people.  But Nazis were held accountable for their war crimes.  Israelis should be too.

Arming Israel and funding Israel's violations of international law and the Palestinians basic human rights is wrong.

“Never Again means Never Again for anybody!” Every year Holocaust survivors and their descendants speak out about Israel’s cruelty towards Palestinian men, women, and children on Holocaust Memorial Day. It is not a huge crowd, but what they say is hugely important. We should listen.

Please do not demonize and silence or destroy people who speak out peacefully against corruption, injustice, racism, bigotry, and violence of every type.

Sincerely,

Anne Selden Annab
