Jordan's former foreign minister, Marwan Muasher, tells MEE that Jordan is worried Palestinians will be displaced en masse: “What we have seen in Gaza is an example not just of killing Palestinians but of making Gaza uninhabitable and trying to affect a mass transfer of Palestinians into Egypt."

Jordan's former foreign minister says two-state solution is over

Jordan’s former foreign minister has told Middle East Eye that Arab countries need to abandon the two-state solution for Israel and Palestine

“Practically, that is not going to take place,” Marwan Muasher, who also served as Jordan’s deputy prime minister and opened the kingdom's first embassy in Israel in 1995, said of the two-state solution in a video interview with Middle East Eye.

The ex-diplomat, who is now vice president for studies at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, said it should be replaced with a “rights-based approach in which the departure point should be equal rights between Israelis and Palestinians”.

“Then one can start talking about what shape of a solution we can arrive at. But any solution that does not involve equal rights is not going to be sustainable in my view.”

In a wide-ranging interview, Muasher said Jordan is very concerned that Israel intends the forceful transfer of large numbers of Palestinians to the kingdom.... READ MORE https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/jordans-former-foreign-minister-says-two-state-solution-over

Jordan has always been concerned that Israel’s aim ultimately is to have mass transfer of Palestinians outside of Palestinian territory,” he said.

“Whereas that position was that of fringe groups in Israel 30 or 40 years ago, today they are part and parcel of the Israeli government.”

“The Israeli government is saying every single day that what they want is an Israeli state from the river to the sea, so that really is Jordan’s worry,” Muasher added.

Israel's no-state solution... Palestinian sovereignty has always been out of the question for Israel, as have equal rights under one binational state.

"... In sum, Israel as an occupying power has consistently pursued not two states, operationalised through withdrawal and land-for-peace, but no state (for Palestinians), operationalised through settlement expansion and “peace-for-peace”.

In the latter - despite its innocuous name - Palestinians are offered neither withdrawal nor equal rights in exchange for Israel’s peace, but rather a “peace” in which they are spared from massive Israeli bombing (and, now, starvation) campaigns.

This threat of hugely asymmetric attacks on civilian populations is used to guarantee Israel’s security as it maintains its occupation and system of preferential rights, and as it enacts the “lower intensity” everyday violence of occupation and segregation on the Palestinians."

"The Achilles heel of the peace process was assuming that Israel views Palestinian statehood as necessary to its security, so that the benefits of withdrawal would outweigh Israel's interest in expansionism"

An untenable strategy

Please DARE SPEAK OUT to advocate a just and lasting peace for all people, not just your chosen favorites.

 Dear President Biden (...etc)

American racism is shaping inhuman policies when it comes to our foreign policies- specifically our politicians' & religious leaders' callous negligence regarding the very real plight & suffering of the native non-Jewish people of the Holy Land.

Yes I know AIPAC generously rewards American politicians who empower the political entity called Israel, while sabotaging and undermining those who don't... and elections are coming up.

Yes I know our mainstream media elects to feature Zionist perspectives & propaganda at every opportunity, and that there are harassment campaigns aimed at silencing American support for the men, women, & children of historic Palestine. But please stand up & speak out for truth and justice any way, and in every way you can.

I believe in beauty & goodness, fair & just laws, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. I also believe in righting historic wrongs.  This morning I was delighted to see an absolutely gorgeous Gustav Klimt portrait of Fraulein Lieser that once belonged to a wealthy Jewish family in Austria. That painting was believed to have been lost in the Nazi Holocaust. Thankfully the portrait was recently discovered, and its sale will benefit the current owners as well as the Lieser heirs "because of Washington Principles, an international agreement to return Nazi-looted art to the descendants of the people they were taken from". https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-68102376

Did you know that Israel has stolen and/or destroyed countless Palestinian books, art, homes, and even entire communities since 1948.

Israeli violence and impunity is escalating, thanks in a large part to American money and support.

Please DARE SPEAK OUT to advocate a just and lasting peace for all people, not just your chosen favorites.  Until Israel is willing to allow a fully sovereign and independent Palestinian state our government should consider the Israel/Palestine conflict a civil rights movement within one Apartheid state called Israel.

Sincerely,

Anne Selden Annab
