The new report by Francesca Albanese »The Truth Beneath the Rubble «, has just been released. It analyzes how the media contribute to the genocide in Gaza.

Translated from French
📣 The new report by   @FranceskAlbs
, « The Truth Beneath the Rubble », has just been released. It analyzes how the media contribute to the genocide in
#Gaza. The media 🇫🇷 are not named specifically. But the practices denounced will be familiar to you… 🧵 Breakdown.👇

[AS ALWAYS PLEASE GO TO THE LINK TO READ GOOD ARTICLES (or quotes or watch videos) IN FULL: HELP SHAPE ALGORITHMS (and conversations) THAT EMPOWER DECENCY, DIGNITY, JUSTICE & PEACE... and hopefully Palestine]

2. Francesca Albanese, you know her. The UN Special Rapporteur on 🇵🇸, she has already documented the "anatomy" of the genocide, its colonial dimension, the economy and the complicities that facilitate it. This time, she shows how truth becomes a target.

3. The thesis of his report is simple: destroying the truth is also part of the destruction of the people 🇵🇸. Because the perpetrators of a genocide want to control its narrative: eliminate witnesses, incite hatred, protect the culprits, etc.

4.  @FranceskAlbs identifies three practices that reinforce each other and facilitate genocide. 1️⃣. The elimination of journalists 🇵🇸. 2️⃣. Censorship and propaganda 🇮🇱. 3️⃣. The relaying of this propaganda in Western media and online. 📺📱

5. 1️⃣. ELIMINATE THE WITNESSES Gaza is the deadliest conflict ever recorded for journalists. An Israeli soldier, quoted in the report, assumes: "If someone writes an article or works on a laptop, it's as if they were carrying a Kalashnikov."

6. These attacks did not begin in October 2023. More than 20 Palestinian journalists had already been killed beforehand. The assassination of the journalist 🇵🇸/🇺🇸 Shireen Abu Akleh, in 2022, foreshadowed, for example, the violence and impunity that we know today.

7. F. Albanese recalls the figures. ✔️ Nearly 300 journalists killed, including about 70 killed in retaliation for their professional activity ✔️ More than 400 injured With, sometimes, "double-tap" strikes to kill the journalists and rescuers who rush to the scene.

8. Israel justifies these strikes, labeling these journalists as "combatants." A legitimization unit would even have been set up as early as 2023. ⚖️: a journalist remains a civilian. It is up to the attacker to prove that he was participating in the hostilities. 👉 ihl-databases.icrc.org/fr/customary-i

9. For Albanese, Israel inverts the rule: journalists killed are labeled "terrorists" or "Hamas agents," without disclosed evidence, often right after their death. Behind it, the intent to persecute an entire sector: more than 150 journalists' homes destroyed.

10. Families too are threatened, sometimes targeted. Wael Al-Dahdouh (@AJEnglish) lost his wife, two children, his grandson, then his eldest son, a journalist. "I knew I was being targeted, but I never would have thought they would go after my family."

11. More than 100 journalists arrested, around thirty still detained. Beatings, sometimes rapes.   @FranceskAlbs reports what would have been said to one of them: "If you write something, [...] we will assassinate you, your wife and your children, in your bedroom."

12. Attacks against journalists are not enough; the tools must also be destroyed. From October 7, 2023, the Tower that housed seven media outlets is destroyed. Then the telecommunications, up to an almost total blackout. Without a network, nothing more can be verified or broadcast.

13. 2️⃣. CONTROLLING THE NARRATIVE. Regarding information, Netanyahu speaks of a “battle for the truth.” In Israel, military censorship has hardened: prior authorization required for any “security”-related subject. Independent media are sanctioned, @haaretzcom at the forefront.

14. Since October 2023, foreign press has, in fact, been banned in Gaza, except when integrated into the army or on organized visits. @AJEnglish is banned from Israel. And meanwhile, Israel pays for campaigns on X and YouTube to reach Western audiences.

 15. Worse: some media 🇮🇱 incite to genocide. Palestinians are called "Amalek," "cancer," or "cannibals" who "must be eradicated." "There are no innocents" in Gaza. 🗣️ Direct and public incitement to genocide is a crime.

16. 3️⃣. WESTERN MEDIA. And us? 📺📻📰 @FranceskAlbs received 62 contributions analyzing Western media, including in France. No French media outlet 🇫🇷 is cited in his report. 💡But for each practice that follows, ask yourself: Have I seen it in France?

17. First, the vocabulary. 🤐 Internal guidelines from @nytimes have leaked: caution with the terms "genocide," "ethnic cleansing," "occupied territory." "Palestine" to be used only "in very rare cases."

18. Albanese then denounces the fake news and accusations 🇮🇱 relayed without verification by these media outlets. The "beheaded babies," the Hamas HQ under the hospitals,  @UNRWA infiltrated: accusations relayed without any verification. The corrections, far fewer…

19. Another example? The expression: “Human shields.” 176 times in the NYT, 81 times at the BBC. How many on @LCI or @BFMTV? It's one of the main 🇮🇱 rhetorical devices, including before the @CIJ_ICJ, to justify its indiscriminate attacks.

20. The work of the UN, the ICJ, the @CourPenaleInt? Underreported, attacked, or presented as "controversial." More than 100 times, @BBC presenters have dismissed the accusation of genocide, without citing the genocidal statements of Israeli leaders.

21. When the facts are undeniable, they erase the author, minimize the crime. According to the study cited in the report, Israel's responsibility is omitted or minimized in 83% of the BBC's relevant headlines. “Hind Rajab, 6 years old, found dead in Gaza.” Found dead…

22. F. Albanese also speaks of an "unequal distribution of empathy." The word "barbarian" is almost always reserved for violence against Israelis. Count how many times you've heard it in France, and about whom.

23. Finally, the platforms. At Meta, X, and Google: posts deleted, accounts suspended, "shadow banning." (This thread will probably be too 🤐) Palestinian voices are disappearing. The official Israeli narrative is amplified.

24. F. Albanese has a word to describe this entire process: "mediacide." A genocide does not destroy only human beings. It also destroys the evidence that makes this destruction visible. Without witnesses, impunity becomes easier.

25. F. Albanese calls on the media to "stop whitewashing propaganda by giving it a journalistic form." Because "justice depends on the survival of the evidence elements." Gaza's journalists have done their part, at the cost of their lives. The French media, have they?

"For so long I wondered why I survived while family and friends were killed. Now I know the only difference between life and death may have been an AI algorithm..."

 NAZA   in The Guardian

Watching NAZA was like peering through a window – and seeing the machinery of killing in Gaza

The lights go down, and for a moment I forget I’m watching a screen. It fills with a rooftop in Tel Aviv at night, black and grey. The camera pans down. Through windows, we see people watching screens of their own – couples holding each other close, following the news, eating food. They appear absorbed in their own worlds, and why wouldn’t they be?

That’s the thing I can’t get past as a Palestinian journalist from Gaza, watching this apparent tranquillity: this must be it – this must be what safety actually looks like. Just an evening uninterrupted, with no military aircraft flying overhead or drones buzzing incessantly. Meanwhile, men and women on the rooftop above them calmly talk about how they decided how many Palestinian civilians would die on any given night.

These are the soldiers, mostly intelligence officers, who helped Israel carry out its destruction of Gaza. Their testimonies form the basis of NAZA, a documentary whose title comes from an Israeli military acronym used to indicate how many civilians are likely to die in an airstrike on the territory.

What surprised me in the film wasn’t the massive scale of the killing, or even the coldness of it, but the proficiency of the soldiers who coolly described destroying people’s lives as if they were discussing a routine errand. One described the work simply as a “mission”, while another compared it to a “video game”.

One soldier described knowing exactly what some of the people were doing in the moments before he killed them. He recalled hearing a man talking to his wife in bed. A baby crying. The sound of the TV. Despite taking all that humanity in, he quickly gave permission to drop the bomb...  READ MORE  https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/sep/17/naza-film-documentary-killing-gaza

The Guardian view on NAZA’s persecuted directors: journalism is not treason. Politicians who threaten filmmakers rather than investigate alleged military crimes expose not strength but a leadership frightened of the evidence

The Guardian

NAZA   Fri 18 Sep 2026

Across Israel, politicians, military leaders and much of the media are trying to discredit a documentary that almost none of them have seen. Produced by the Guardian, NAZA examines the AI-powered targeting systems used by the Israel Defense Forces to bombard Gaza after Hamas’s brutal 7 October 2023 attacks. Named after the Israeli military acronym euphemistically used for “collateral damage”, NAZA features interviews with 24 anonymous insiders who reflect on their role in the death-dealing. Israeli leaders have branded the film a “blood libel” and “fiction”. Its Oscar-winning directors, Rachel Szor and Yuval Abraham, face being stripped of their citizenship for treason.

This is absurd. NAZA shows how bureaucratic distance and routine can turn extreme violence into ordinary work. More than 73,000 Palestinians, including more than 20,000 children, have been killed in the campaign by Israel’s military. A democracy that values life would at least investigate the film’s claims. Instead Israel’s government, which says it is committed to democratic accountability, is attacking journalists.

The allegations in NAZA come from military insiders. For many, it does not appear to be remorse that drives them to speak out. Some are proud of what they have done. One recalls the “insane fun” of planning airstrikes in Gaza... Amid the systematic killing of Palestinian and Lebanese journalists, one organisation has been quietly bringing British media workers to Israel.

23 April 2026

On Wednesday, journalist Amal Khalil and photographer Zeinab Faraj were reporting from southern Lebanon when an Israeli airstrike reportedly hit a car in front of them.

The two journalists, working for the Lebanese newspaper Al Akhbar, were then targeted as they sought shelter in a nearby home. Khalil was killed and Faraj was seriously injured.

Khalil is one of over 259 Palestinian and Lebanese journalists to be killed by Israel since 2023, with the IDF responsible for two-thirds of all journalist killings globally in 2025.

While systematically killing Palestinian journalists, the Israeli government blocked entry of foreign media workers to Gaza, in an effort to create a blackout of its genocidal campaign.

At the same time, an influential lobby group named ELNET has been quietly taking UK journalists on propaganda tours of Israel, Declassified can reveal.

ELNET was created in 2007 to “counter the widespread criticism of Israel in Europe”, and is increasingly seen as the AIPAC of Europe.

The journalists who participated in ELNET delegations to Israel have written for some of Britain’s largest news organisations including the Telegraph, Spectator, and Mail on Sunday.

ELNET has also taken former British military officers to Israel, with many of them returning to Britain and putting a positive spin on the IDF’s operations in Gaza.

Des Freedman, professor of media and communications at Goldsmiths, told Declassified: “Journalists can try to claim that these are fact-finding visits but, in reality, they are junkets specifically deigned to generate pro-Israel coverage.

“Embedded journalism like this is dodgy in peacetime but utterly scandalous during a genocide when the rest of the world’s media have been locked out of Gaza.

“At the very least, just as the UK competition regulator insists that paid-for content must be ‘clearly labelled’, the same should apply to news stories that are made possible by well-funded supporters of the Israeli regime”.

"We call on Israel to immediately cease such actions against UNRWA premises, respect the Agency’s mandate, lift all restrictions imposed on its activities, and fully comply with its obligations under international law, in line with the latest advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice of 22 October 2025 on the Obligations of Israel in relation to the Presence and Activities of the United Nations, other International Organizations and Third States in and in relation to the Occupied Palestinian territory. "

The Advisory Commission expresses deep concern and deplores actions by the Government of Israel to demolish the headquarters of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in occupied East Jerusalem. Such actions set a dangerous precedent, threatening to undermine the multilateral system.

Israel must abide by its international obligations to ensure the protection and inviolability of United Nations premises in accordance with the provisions of the Convention on Privileges and Immunities of the UN (1946) and the UN Charter. We urge Israel to comply with its obligations under international law.

We call on Israel to immediately cease such actions against UNRWA premises, respect the Agency’s mandate, lift all restrictions imposed on its activities, and fully comply with its obligations under international law, in line with the latest advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice of 22 October 2025 on the Obligations of Israel in relation to the Presence and Activities of the United Nations, other International Organizations and Third States in and in relation to the Occupied Palestinian territory.

In light of these serious events, the Advisory Commission reaffirms its firm and unwavering support for UNRWA and for the full implementation of its essential mandate to meet the needs of Palestine refugees until a just and lasting peace is reached in the region.

Background Information:

UNRWA is the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East. The United Nations General Assembly established UNRWA in 1949 with a mandate to provide humanitarian assistance and protection to registered Palestine refugees in the Agency’s area of operations pending a just and lasting solution to their plight.

UNRWA operates in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, The Gaza Strip, Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.

Tens of thousands of Palestine refugees who lost their homes and livelihoods due to the 1948 conflict continue to be displaced and in need of support, over 75 years on.

UNRWA helps Palestine Refugees achieve their full potential in human development through quality services it provides in education, health care, relief and social services, protection, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance, and emergency assistance. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions.

 UNRWA: Facts Versus Claims

UNRWA has long faced misinformation and disinformation campaigns, including about its staff and operations.

Palestinian journalists have been our eyes and ears covering the atrocities of the war on Gaza and bringing a human face to describe the impact. They have worked heroically and against all odds.

Together with humanitarian workers they have paid a heavy ultimate price. More than 230 of them have been killed. Gaza is the deadliest place in the world to be a journalist, just as it is the deadliest place to be a humanitarian worker.

Since the war began, international journalists have been banned from entering Gaza independently - something that is fundamental to media freedom.

The ban fuels disinformation campaigns and polarised narratives. It aims at questioning firsthand data and eyewitness accounts, including the testimony of international humanitarian organisations, as well as at dehumanising  Palestinians.

The ban on international journalists has lasted too long, lifting it is overdue.
