Dear Editor,
Ibish is wise to point out the importance of supporting the Palestine national project. It really is very easy and quite tempting to be cynical and snide and totally pessimistic about peace and justice in the Middle East, but we need to be noticing that such negativity and naysaying mainly help Israeli intransigence and religious extremists thrive.
In addition to supporting the establishment of firm foundations for a sovereign and viable Palestinian State, we need to be noticing The Arab Peace Initiative which helps clarify crucial issues and firmly "Requests Israel to reconsider its policies and declare that a just peace is its strategic option as well"
It is reasonable and it is right to insist that Israel:
1. End its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantle the Wall;
2. Recognize the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and
3. Respect, protect and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution 194.
It is also reasonable and right to believe in Palestine and the importance of diplomatically advocating a negotiated end to the Israel/Palestine conflict for everyone's sake: Dare hope- and in hoping dare help build positive momentum for peace- and Palestine.
Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab
