AMMAN (JT) - His Majesty King Abdullah on Monday said Jordan would continue to extend all types of support to the Palestinians and use all means to highlight their suffering and empower them to establish their independent state.
The King made the remarks in a letter to Paul Badji, chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
In the letter, the King said it is time to stop the oppression and violations the Palestinian people suffer from and to guarantee them their right to decide their destiny and enjoy independence on their national soil.
The King also underlined that Israel must work seriously towards achieving peace and engage in effective peace talks.
These negotiations, he said, should be based on the two-state solution and the relevant terms of reference, especially the Arab Peace Initiative, adding that they should build on previous achievements and address all final status issues in accordance with a specific time frame in order to realise the two-state solution as soon as possible.
In the letter, His Majesty said the increasing poverty, hunger, frustration and despair of the Palestinians in Gaza Strip require immediate and serious international action to end the siege on Gaza and the humanitarian crisis in the coastal enclave.
The Monarch called on Israel to immediately halt its unilateral measures, especially the creation and expansion of settlements and all attempts to change the features and historical identity of the occupied city of Jerusalem and threaten its holy sites.
His Majesty also said he appreciated efforts by the committee to rally international support for the rights of the Palestinians and peacemaking efforts.
