The Ceasefire in Gaza: The crisis is far from over...

Israel killed 80 Palestinians in Gaza today, 30 of whom killed after the ceasefire deal was announced. Israel always accelerates its massacres in the lead-up to ceasefire deadlines. Gaza also remains a besieged concentration camp reduced to rubble. The crisis is far from over.

What a relief! Thank you Lord. But also a shameful moment for Humanity that so much blood had to be spilled before politicians in power agreed to ceasefire - peace can never come too soon

"This is long overdue for the children and families of Gaza who have endured more than a year of bombardment and deprivation, and for the hostages in Gaza and their families in Israel who have suffered so much." on announcement of ceasefire: unicef.org/press-releases

“The war has exacted a horrific toll on Gaza’s children – reportedly leaving at least 14,500 dead, thousands more injured, an estimated 17,000 unaccompanied or separated from their parents, and nearly one million displaced from their homes.

“The scale of humanitarian needs is enormous, and UNICEF and partners are ready to scale up our response. The ceasefire must, finally, afford humanitarian actors the opportunity to safely roll out the massive response inside the Gaza Strip that is so desperately needed. This includes unimpeded access to reach all children and families with essential food and nutrition, health care and psychosocial support, clean water, and sanitation, education, and learning, as well as cash assistance and the resumption of commercial trucking operations.

“With the collapse of essential services across Gaza, we must act urgently to save lives and help children recover."  ...READ MORE  https://www.unicef.org/press-releases/statement-unicef-executive-director-catherine-russell-announcement-ceasefire-gaza

Depraved & sadistic. With the announcement of the upcoming ceasefire Israel shelled the Palestinians celebrating in the street, then shelled the tattered tents of the displaced. The utmost cruelty.

At least 71 Palestinians have been killed and more than 200 injured since the announcement of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
Israel and Hamas have agreed to a phased ceasefire deal that includes boosting aid into Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners. Over the last 15 months, civilians have been targeted, attacked and killed at a scale unprecedented in the recent history of Israel and Palestine.

Our work is not done! A ceasefire is only the most important first step to end the genocide against the 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza. Without massive pressure, it may constitute a continuation of a less visible form of genocide that Israel and the US hope will provoke less regional and global outrage, boycotts and sanctions. Boycott and pressure these companies now for their complicity in Israel’s occupation, apartheid and genocide against Palestinians.

"I welcome the announcement of a deal to secure a ceasefire and hostage release in Gaza. I urge the parties & relevant partners to seize this opportunity to establish a credible political path to a better future for Palestinians, Israelis & broader region." -

The 40 people who were killed after the ceasefire deal announcement yesterday afternoon managed to survive over the past 15 months, be it starvation, air strikes, illnesses, and the nonstop evacuation orders. Just in a click of a button, they were killed with their families. And yet sadly, more will be killed in Gaza today and will they never live to return to their bombed houses and feel that they made it.

BDS commemorates 37 years since the beginning of the 1st Palestinian Intifada of 1987... TAKE #nonviolent ACTION

Sunday, 8th December:

  • We commemorate 37 years since the beginning of the 1st Palestinian Intifada of 1987. A collective and inclusive movement spread from Gaza across historic Palestine calling for boycotts, strikes, and popular resistance to end Israel's military occupation and colonial rule.

“Today we confront the most brutal phase of Israel’s 76-year-old regime of settler colonialism and apartheid. This is manifested in a genocide perpetrated against our people in Gaza, which is funded, armed and shielded from accountability by the colonial West, led by the US. Also corporations and institutions that continue business-as-usual with apartheid Israel are  complicit in apartheid and genocide. In the spirit of the Palestinian Intifada, we continue to steadfast, to resist oppression, and we shall eventually overcome. We call on people of conscience worldwide to mobilize to end all forms of state, corporate and institutional complicity with Israel. Together, we shall prevail and build towards a better humanity.” - Mahmoud Nawajaa, BNC General Coordinator.

 Monday, 9th December:

The International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime.

For over a year, we have been sharing the images, stories and ghastly statistics of the rising number of Palestinians killed, burned, starved, displaced, and fallen sick by Israel’s devastating genocide in Gaza. We have been calling for and enacting pressure on states and international institutions to fulfill the bare minimum of their legal obligation to end complicity by imposing lawful, targeted sanctions on Israel.

On 5th December, 2024 the world’s largest human rights organization, Amnesty International, added its voice to states, UN experts, and thousands of legal scholars and historians who have reached the same conclusion. Amnesty found that, based on policies, actions, and omissions since 7 October, 2023, Israel is committing genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in besieged and occupied Gaza. It  called on states to impose targeted and lawful sanctions on apartheid Israel.

Tuesday, 10th December:

  • On the UN Human Rights Day, in the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we call on our supporters to heed the Palestinian call for action. Adopted only days after the UN passed the illegal and unethical Plan of Partition of Palestine 76 years ago, the Declaration has been systematically violated by Israel throughout its existence as a settler-colonial apartheid state.

Let's organize across these dates, peacefully disrupting business-as-usual with Israel, amplifying Palestinian demands in your mobilizations, and helping us grow the power of the BDS movement  to stop Israel’s genocide in Gaza and dismantle its regime of settler-colonial apartheid.

TAKE ACTION:

1. PRESSURE YOUR GOVERNMENT TO IMPOSE SANCTIONS ON ISRAEL, INCLUDING A COMPREHENSIVE MILITARY EMBARGO.

2. TAKE TO THE STREETS TO PRESSURE GOVERNMENTS TO END COMPLICITY.

3. FOCUS ON BDS PRIORITY TARGETS AND CAMPAIGNS.

4. DEMAND THE IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION OF APARTHEID ISRAEL FROM THE UN.

Colleges should not be using students' tuition money to invest in companies supporting Israel's war in Gaza... "I Am a Jewish Student at Columbia. Don’t Believe What You’re Being Told About ‘Campus Antisemitism’. Smears from the press and pro-Israel influencers are a dangerous distraction from real threats to our safety."

Student activists have been calling for universities to "divest from genocide".

I Am a Jewish Student at Columbia. Don’t Believe What You’re Being Told About ‘Campus Antisemitism’

Smears from the press and pro-Israel influencers are a dangerous distraction from real threats to our safety.

“Reprehensible and dangerous.” “Terrorist sympathizers.” “It’s not 1938 Berlin. It’s 2024, Columbia University, NYC.”

The White House, Congressional Republicans, and cable news talking heads would have you believe that the Columbia University campus has devolved into a hotbed of antisemitic violence – but the reality on the ground is very different. As a Jewish student at Columbia, it depresses me that I have to correct the record and explain what the real risk to our safety looks like. I still can't quite believe how the events on campus over the past few days have been so cynically and hysterically misrepresented by the media and by our elected representatives.

Last week, the Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD) coalition, representing more than 100 student organizations, including Jewish groups, organized the Gaza Solidarity Encampment, a peaceful campus protest in solidarity with Palestine. CUAD was reactivated after the university suspended Students for Justice in Palestine and Jewish Voice for Peace in the fall. On Wednesday morning, hundreds of students camped out on Columbia’s South Lawn. They vowed to stay put until the university divests from companies that profit from their ties to Israel. Protesters prayed, chanted, ate pizza, and condemned the university’s complicity in Israel’s attacks on Gaza. Though counter-protesters waved Israeli flags near the encampment, the campus remained largely calm from my vantage point.

Columbia responded by imposing a miniature police state. Just over a day after the encampment was formed, university President Minouche Shafik asked and authorized the New York Police Department to clear the lawn and load 108 students – including a number of Jewish students – onto Department of Corrections buses to be held at NYPD headquarters at 1 Police Plaza. One Jewish student told me that she and her fellow protesters were restrained in zip-tie handcuffs for eight hours and held in cells where they shared a toilet without privacy. The NYPD chief of patrol John Chell later told the Columbia Spectator that “the students that were arrested were peaceful, offered no resistance whatsoever, and were saying what they wanted to say in a peaceful manner.”

Since then, dozens of undergraduates have been locked out of their dorms without notice. Barnard College, an affiliate of Columbia, notably gave students just 15 minutes to retrieve their belongings after returning from lockup and finding themselves evicted. Suspended students cannot return to campus and are struggling to access food or medical care. Students who keep Shabbat, and do not use electronics on the Sabbath, were forced to rely on technology in order to secure food and emergency housing. This crackdown was the most violence inflicted on our student body in decades. I implore you, as our Jewish Voice for Peace chapter does, to consider whether arresting Jewish students keeps us and Columbia safe.

No Tech for Apartheid campaign ... Google fires 28 employees for protesting Israel cloud deal

STATEMENT from Google workers with the No Tech for Apartheid campaign on Google’s mass, retaliatory firings of workers  https://medium.com/@notechforapartheid/statement-from-google-workers-with-the-no-tech-for-apartheid-campaign-on-googles-indiscriminate-28ba4c9b7ce8

CNN News : Google fires 28 employees for protesting Israel cloud deal

London CNN  —

Google has fired more than two dozen employees who protested this week against the company’s cloud computing contract with the Israeli government.

The workers were dismissed after an investigation found that they had staged protests inside Google’s offices in New York and Sunnyvale, California. In Sunnyvale, they entered the office of Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian, according to a post on X by the group that organized the demonstration, No Tech For Apartheid.

Protesters held banners that read “No More Genocide For Profit” and “We Stand with Palestinian, Arab and Muslim Googlers.”

A Google spokesperson told CNN Thursday that the protests “were part of a long-standing campaign by a group of organizations and people who largely don’t work” at the company.

“A small number of employee protesters entered and disrupted a few of our locations. Physically impeding other employees’ work and preventing them from accessing our facilities is a clear violation of our policies, and completely unacceptable behavior. After refusing multiple requests to leave the premises, law enforcement was engaged to remove them to ensure office safety,” the spokesperson added.

“We have so far concluded individual investigations that resulted in the termination of employment for 28 employees, and will continue to investigate and take action as needed.”

Time: Google Fires 28 Workers Involved in Protests Over $1.2 Billion Israeli Contract

Alphabet Inc.’s Google has fired 28 employees after they were involved in protests against Project Nimbus, a $1.2 billion joint contract with Amazon.com Inc. to provide the Israeli government with AI and cloud services.

The protests, which were led by the No Tech for Apartheid organization, took place Tuesday across Google offices in New York City, Seattle, and Sunnyvale, California. Protesters in New York and California staged a nearly 10-hour sit-in, with others documenting the action, including through a Twitch livestream. Nine of them were arrested Tuesday evening on trespassing charges.

Several workers involved in the protests, including those who were not directly engaged in the sit-in, received a message from the company’s Employee Relations group informing them that they had been put on leave. Google told the affected employees that it’s “keeping this matter as confidential as possible, only disclosing information on a need to know basis” in an email seen by Bloomberg. On Wednesday evening, the workers were informed they were being dismissed by the company, according to a statement from Google staff with the No Tech for Apartheid campaign.

“Physically impeding other employees’ work and preventing them from accessing our facilities is a clear violation of our policies, and completely unacceptable behavior,” Google said in a statement about the protesters.... READ MORE

Land Day 2024 Palestine: In 1976 it was 6 unarmed farmers murdered by Israeli forces, this year it is more than 32,704 + Palestinian people murdered by Israeli forces, mostly women & children have been killed

"We have on this earth what makes life worth living"Mahmoud Darwish

Every year on March 30, Palestinians observe Land Day, or Yom al-Ard, recalling the events of March 30, 1976, when six unarmed Palestinians were killed and more than 100 injured by Israeli forces during protests against Israel’s confiscation of Palestinian land.

Israel has continued to seize large swaths of Palestinian land, designating them as military zones, state land and other labels.  https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2024/3/30/land-day-what-happened-in-palestine-in-1976

Settlements – illegal under international law – are Jewish-only communities built on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

48 years on and we are witnessing the continuation of this with Israeli attempts at ethnically cleansing Gaza by genocide. #ceasefireNOW

Today we mark the 48th anniversary of #LandDay

Israel’s colonialism never abated and in the occupied West Bank, it has got only worse since 7 Oct 2023:

27,000 acres of land seized

There are 840 checkpoints and barriers aimed at disrupting the Palestinian right to movement

25 Bedouin communities were displaced from their lands

9,600 olive trees uprooted

Today is #LandDay in Palestine and I managed to get a text from my younger brother Tareq for the 1st time since the Israeli genocide started. His house got bombed in Jabalia and he is now in Rafah in a tent, still hoping to return to the North  #Gaza

BDS worldwide- for Palestine  @BDSmovement On the 48th anniversary of Land Day, let’s not just commemorate Israel’s past crimes, but also fight to end its ongoing #GazaGenocide as well as its ongoing Nakba, and, most importantly, to ultimately dismantle its underlying apartheid.

Land Day is a day of commemoration of the Palestinian struggle against the Israeli occupation's ethnic cleansing of indigenous Palestinian people.

Today marks the 48th anniversary of Land Day.

2024 "Of course, for the Palestinians, we did not need an international court to tell us that Israel is committing a genocide, but it was cathartic to hear this acknowledged on a global platform."

& SPEAKING OF HOSTAGES....
