& Author of Mornings in Jenin
This
is a news article about my great grandfather, Mohammad Khalil Abulhawa
(spelled Abu el-Hawa here). And the link is archival AP footage of him
in 1957. The tattered document they show in both the picture and link is
his birth certificate showing that he was born in 1821. He was 136
years old when these news reports were made of him. On my father's side,
he is my great grandfather. On my mother's
slide, he is my great uncle. He outlived 5 wives and fathered 26
children. He holds the record for the longest life in the Middle East.
Amazingly, there are records of older people in other parts of the
world.
