Please do not demonize and silence or destroy people who speak out peacefully against corruption, injustice, racism, bigotry, and violence of every type.

Semitic languages
 Dear America ,

Criticizing Israel is not Anti-Semitic.  Semites speak Semitic languages. Palestinians are Semites, but they are erased and excluded from the definition of Anti-Semitism...

Palestinians are also being erased, excluded, and silenced by Israeli efforts to seize Palestinian land, rights, peace, and the story itself.

We know about Anti-Semitism because of the crimes against humanity committed by Nazis who were taught to hate Jewish people and others.

The first prosecution for crimes against humanity took place during the Nuremberg trials (1945-1946) against defeated leaders of Nazi Germany, laying the ground work for modern international law.

Nazis had been brainwashed by toxic propaganda to hate Jewish people.  But Nazis were held accountable for their war crimes.  Israelis should be too.

Arming Israel and funding Israel's violations of international law and the Palestinians basic human rights is wrong.

“Never Again means Never Again for anybody!” Every year Holocaust survivors and their descendants speak out about Israel’s cruelty towards Palestinian men, women, and children on Holocaust Memorial Day. It is not a huge crowd, but what they say is hugely important. We should listen.

Please do not demonize and silence or destroy people who speak out peacefully against corruption, injustice, racism, bigotry, and violence of every type.

Sincerely,

Americans should not be helping racist Israel maim, wound and kill the children of Palestine.

2024 Student Protests
 Dear Biden...etc... ,

America has been unfairly siding with Jews-preferred Israel instead of standing up for the rule of fair and just laws- real security - and true democracy.

Israel aggressively persecutes and impoverishes the native non-Jewish people of historic Palestine over and over and over, for almost a century now, pushing Palestinian individuals and families into forced displacement and crowded refugee camps.

Meanwhile, here in America we frown on prayer in our public schools, while at the same time our taxes, as well as charity donations, generously fund Israel's religious "scholars" and schemes...  American politicians should not be legislating Israel's official taxpayer funded religion, nor should our elected officials be helping racist Israel maim, wound and kill the children of Palestine.

Holocaust Remembrance & "Never Again" need to be for everyone's sake- a fully inclusive plea, and a historically accurate call to remember all who suffered and died in the Nazi Holocaust including blacks, gays, disabled people, Poles, Roma "Gypsies", and political prisoners, to name a few.

Furthermore "Never Again" has to be about firmly condemning ongoing crimes against humanity today, not just yesterday.

Israel's monstrous Apartheid Wall needs to fall.

Sincerely,

Anne Selden Annab

FYI the Israel/Palestine conflict did not start on Oct 7th 2023. To be fair and honest you must go back to 1917 when the British Empire and Occupation promoted the Balfour Declaration to create a "national home for the Jewish people" in Palestine.  At the time Palestine was part of the Ottoman Empire and there was a small Arab Jewish population living there, living in peace along with Muslims and Christians.

Fast forward to 1948 when following the horrors of the Nazi Holocaust, modern man made Israel was created. Israel was not created peacefully or by consensus with the Arab residents who had lived there for eons.  Israel was created by invading Zionist terrorists who murdered many indigenous Arabs- fragmenting families, and pushing millions of Palestinians into forced exile.

Israel has dropped almost 75,000 bombs and shells on Gaza in 200 days, twenty times more than the US aimed at Iraq in six years of war. It’s not war. It’s genocide.

There are enough weapons of war and destruction already on planet earth.

Where, after all, do universal human rights begin?

The UN Mediator for Palestine, Count Folke Bernadotte, believed that the Palestinians displaced had a right to return to their homes and wrote several UN reports to that effect.

"It would be an offence against the principles of elemental justice if these innocent victims of the conflict were denied the right to return to their homes while Jewish immigrants flow into Palestine, and, indeed, at least offer the threat of permanent replacement of the Arab refugees who have been rooted in the land for centuries."

Bernadotte was assassinated on Friday 17 September 1948 by members of the group Lehi, a Zionist terrorist organization, commonly known in the West as the Stern Gang

"I fear we are forgetting lessons from that terrible history" Eva Ladipo... My family’s past, and Germany’s, weighs heavily upon me. And it’s why I feel so strongly about Gaza

I don’t usually talk about my great-uncle Walter. Gen Walter Warlimont, as my grandfather’s brother was formally known, was head of the national defence department in the high command of the Wehrmacht, the armed forces of Nazi Germany. Only two people were between him and the Führer in the chain of command. Walter worked so closely with Hitler that the failed assassination attempt in July 1944 injured his arm. The orders he signed during wartime – about who to shoot to kill, about how to treat prisoners – meant he had hundreds of thousands of lives on his conscience.

Not that Uncle Walter was the only one in the family who facilitated the Third Reich and the Holocaust. My paternal grandparents were very proud to have been among the very earliest members of Hitler’s party. My maternal grandfather – Walter’s brother – was the head of a factory in Vienna that made the guidance systems for the V2 rocket, a factory that was staffed by Russian and Ukrainian slave labourers.

I’ve never really felt a need to write about my family history before. But Walter’s life and crimes feel uncomfortably relevant right now. As I watch how the debate and discussion over the war in Gaza have played out in Germany, in the months since the horrific attacks of 7 October, I worry that even as we constantly invoke the Nazi past, we are forgetting some crucial lessons from our history.... A big reason so many of us are speaking up for Palestine is because we recieved Holocaust education not because we lack it: NEVER AGAIN FOR ANYONE

weirdmomart  #artforpeace  #artforpalestine

"I grew up learning about the Holocaust. I learned of the horror European Jews went through, the way most Germans went along with it, the way most of the world turned a blind eye and wouldn't even let Jews immigrate. I also learned about courageous people from many backgrounds who saved Jews and resisted occupation.

From there, I learned about other genocides including of Indigenous peoples in my own country. I learned how to tell the signs of genocide like how people spoke of Jews or Indigenous peoples as dirty, inhuman, or as inherent threats to security.

I can now recognize the signs of genocide against Palestinians thanks to this education. I learned never again for anyone and if it ever happens we need to speak out even if we're called names and threatened.

Never again is now."

We are witnessing the first televised genocide in Gaza

 Published: Feb. 03, 2024

Suhail Shafi, Mechanicsburg, Pa:

For the past four months, the world has been witness to what could well be the world’s first ever televised genocide committed by Israel in Gaza with the Biden administration’s near total complicity and support. Israel’s massacres in Gaza, which have caused tens of thousands of casualties, have involved attacks on civilian targets on a massive scale.

The U.S. funded and armed Israeli military has been responsible for the carpet bombing of entire civilian neighborhoods in Gaza with the indiscriminate destruction of houses, hospitals, schools and places of worship of both Christians and Muslims.

As a child growing up during the 90s, I still remember the horrors of the war crimes the Milosevic dictatorship inflicted on Bosnians and Kosovans. The massacres in Gaza are horrifically reminiscent of the siege of Sarajevo where Serb forces routinely massacred and bombed civilian targets in the city... Sorrow and fury: a letter from American rabbis to President Biden... also puplished (as a paid ad) in the New York Times late January 2024

logo-rabcab

Dear President Biden,

As American rabbis, we write to you with deep sorrow and fury.

Tomorrow is the UN – designated International Holocaust Remembrance Day: a time to honor the memory of the millions of people murdered through the genocide committed by the Nazi regime, including six million of our Jewish ancestors. On this day, we honor the enormity of our losses, the impact of dehumanization and attempted annihilation on those who survived, and the still-reverberating trauma that has shaped so many of our families and communities.

With sorrow, we will also remember this as the time in which Israel was committing a genocide, aided and abetted by the United States.

We are compelled to speak with moral clarity about what is happening to Palestinians at this very moment. We do so not in spite of our histories, but because of them. We know in our bones what it means to hear Israeli officials dehumanize an entire people, to witness the Israeli military mass murder tens of thousands of Palestinians, to watch Israel systematically destroy civilian infrastructure, cultural institutions, universities, and hospitals. To see Israel purposefully deny food, medicine, and shelter to refugees.

We hold the traumatic history of our people with care and sensitivity — and know how  painful it is for Jews to grasp that a Jewish state could possibly commit a genocide. Nevertheless, we must agree with increasing numbers of scholars and international rights experts who have determined that Israel’s actions in Gaza constitute, in the words of Prof. Raz Segal, “a textbook case of genocide.”

We support and uplift South Africa’s recent application to the International Court of Justice claiming Israel is in breach of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. And now, Palestinian human rights organizations, together with Palestinians in the US and Gaza, are bringing a case against your administration for failure to prevent, and complicity in, the Israeli government’s unfolding genocide against them, their families, and the 2.2 million Palestinians in Gaza. We stand in support of their action as well.

According to a core teaching of Jewish spiritual tradition, humanity was created in the image of God. That means that each and every human being is of infinite value. The UN 1948 Convention on Genocide was created to uphold this very idea. The Torah also teaches that there will always be moments when we must make a critical moral choice. As Deuteronomy 30:19 says, “I have put before you life and death, blessing and curse. Choose life.” President Biden, you have chosen death. Instead of using your considerable power to prevent or end this genocide, you have directly abetted it with weapons, funds and diplomatic cover.

On this day of remembrance in 2021, you noted that, “The Holocaust was no accident of history.” As you stated, “It occurred because too many governments cold-bloodedly adopted and implemented hate-fueled laws, policies, and practices to vilify and dehumanize entire groups of people, and too many individuals stood by silently. Silence is complicity.”

President Biden, what is happening right now in Gaza is no accident of history — and your complicity has been anything but silent. We call upon you to be true to your word and end U.S. complicity in Israel’s genocide against the Palestinian people.

If the words “Never Again” have any meaning at all, they must mean “Never Again for Anyone.” We fervently ask of you: please honor the word and spirit of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day by using your office to bring a ceasefire to this tragic violence — and to stop blocking efforts toward building a truly just peace for all who live between the river and the sea.

With urgency,

Never letting children endure war again is the “never again” that might actually heal our wounded humanity.

The violence in Gaza may have started on October 7, 2023 for Israel and for the world. But for Palestinians it started 75 years ago, and never stopped.

My Palestinian mother is 79 years old. She grew up in Jerusalem. Seventy-five years ago, she was 4 years old, and Israel drove her, her family, and all of her village out of their homes, which they would never see again. They became part of the Palestinian diaspora.

During the attack on Kharrouba, my mother’s village, she was asleep and when everyone fled, she was left behind. My grandfather walked for 16 hours, risking his life, to find her. That trauma still marks every day of my mother’s life.

Kharruba, her town of origin, was one of more than 400 Palestinian towns and villages that were either depopulated violently or destroyed after Palestine was torn up and Israel came into being on May 14, 1948.... READ MORE  https://www.thenation.com/article/world/palestine-gaza-children-peace/
