Old Man of Jerusalem... with an AP archive link to a wonderful old (& very brief) video made in 1957 of an amazing Palestinian, Mohammad Khalil Abulhawa, born in 1821

This is a news article about my great grandfather, Mohammad Khalil Abulhawa (spelled Abu el-Hawa here). And the link is archival AP footage of him in 1957. The tattered document they show in both the picture and link is his birth certificate showing that he was born in 1821. He was 136 years old when these news reports were made of him. On my father's side, he is my great grandfather. On my mother's slide, he is my great uncle. He outlived 5 wives and fathered 26 children. He holds the record for the longest life in the Middle East. Amazingly, there are records of older people in other parts of the world.

CNN: World-renowned chef, best-selling author and Emmy-winning television personality Anthony Bourdain... 10 things to know before visiting Israel, the West Bank and Gaza

Mount of Olives
World-renowned chef, best-selling author and Emmy-winning television personality Anthony Bourdain returns for the second season of CNN's showcase for coverage of food and travel. "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown" is shot entirely on location and premieres Sept 15 @ 9pm ET/PT. Follow the show on Twitter and Facebook. Bourdain's first stop: Israel, the West Bank and Gaza.

(CNN) -- The Holy Land makes for inspiring, fascinating, confusing travel.

To some, the chunk of territory between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea is all Israel.

To others, it's all Palestine.

For most -- as is true so often in this region of shifting truths and manipulated historical narratives -- it's a bit of both.

Take a walking tour of East Jerusalem, or a pilgrimage to the Palestinian city of Bethlehem and you'll run into Israel's infamous security barrier. CNN

Even food origins are contentious

Israel exists as an intersection of three major religions, Christianity, Judaism and Islam, creating a complex blend of cuisines.

"It's easily the most contentious piece of real estate in the world, and there's no hope -- none -- of ever talking about it without pissing somebody, if not everybody, off."

JERUSALEM (Ma’an) -- A Muslim-Christian group on Sunday decried an Israeli government plan to build a military academy in occupied East Jerusalem.

Peace Now settlement watch director Hagit Ofran said on Sunday that notices were hung around the Mount of Olives, giving the public 60 days to file objections to the building of the eight-story military college.

The Islamic-Christian Commission said the plan is part of Israeli authorities' efforts to erase the Palestinian identity of East Jerusalem.

Israel captured East Jerusalem in a 1967 war and later illegally annexed the city, a move never recognized by the international community. Palestinians insist East Jerusalem is the capital of their hoped-for state.

Israel approved some 800 new housing units in the illegal settlement of Gilo near Jerusalem earlier this week, drawing condemnation from the European Union.
