Had   @infinite_jaz not filmed and posted the footage there would be no coverage of this story, but this is the daily abuse Palestinians face. They want you to believe it’s separate from Gaza, but it’s all connected by Israel’s decades-long, illegal occupation of Palestinian land.

A 55-year-old Palestinian woman has been taken to hospital after being clubbed over the head by a masked Jewish settler as she was picking olives.

The unprovoked attack, which took place on Sunday morning in the Palestinian village of Turmus Ayya in the occupied West Bank, was captured on video by US journalist Jasper Nathaniel.

Mr Nathaniel said the settler knocked the woman unconscious with his stick, before hitting her again as she lay on the ground. She has been named as Afaf Abu Alia, known locally as Umm Saleh.... READ MORE

The father of a hostage currently held in Gaza has alleged that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would prefer that the hostages were dead so that he can carry out intensified attacks on the enclave.

“He prefers the hostages dead because it’s going to make it easier for him,” Yehuda Cohen said in an interview with the BBC on Friday.

“Once you convince everybody that they are all dead… you can say, ‘okay, we can go brute force on the Gaza Strip, bomb everything,’” he said.

Cohen, whose son Nimrod is still being held captive in Gaza, was one of several family members of the hostages to sail toward the enclave on Thursday, calling for the war to end.

Netanyahu “just (doesn’t) care” about the hostages, Cohen said. “He’s using the hostages issue to prolong the war, to prolong his position as a prime minister.”

“Netanyahu is working for personal interest. He’s on criminal trial, and as I say always, this is what happens when you put a person who is under criminal trial as a head of a state,” he said, referencing a long-running corruption trial involving the prime minister... This is a devastating intervention. More than a hundred BBC employees have written a letter to the director general, Tim Davie, complaining that the Corporation has become a mouthpiece for Israel.

It was also signed by 300 other journalists and media professionals: one of them was yours truly. The BBC employees, as you would expect, are all anonymous, because otherwise they would face grave consequences to their careers.

The letter says:

We’re writing to express our concerns over opaque editorial decisions and censorship at the BBC on the reporting of Israel/Palestine. We believe the refusal to broadcast the documentary ‘Gaza: Medics Under Fire’ is just one in a long line of agenda driven decisions. It demonstrates, once again, that the BBC is not reporting “without fear or favour” when it comes to Israel.

It goes on to note that the decision not to broadcast the investigation was taken by BBC management despite the content being signed off in accordance with BBC guidelines and editorial policy, which it says “Appears to be a political decision”, adding that the BBC response shows the organisation “is crippled by the fear of being perceived as critical of the Israeli government.”  ...
