"A ripple effect- They may not have reached Gaza's shores, but the crew still delievered... For the first time sine October 2023 Palestinain could fish without being shot at by the Israeli navy (they've been too busy chasing the flotillas)."

OFFICIAL UPDATE FROM GLOBAL SUMUD FLOTILLA

Organization CONFIRMS the Israeli naval forces illegally intercepted and boarded the Global Sumud Flotilla’s vessel Sirius along with other boats in international waters.

38 PEOPLE from 16 COUNTRIES KIDNAPPED

The people of Gaza thank the Global Sumud Flotilla for giving them an opportunity to fish by distracting the occupation forces whose mission is genocide by hunger.

“From the sea to Gaza - we will not forget you. We will not let you be forgotten. This is the voice of humanity.”

These were the last words recorded from the Marinette, the last active boat of the Global Sumud Flotilla, before Israeli forces intercepted them on Friday.

With roughly 500 participants from different countries aboard at least 42 vessels, the Global Sumud Flotilla set out carrying humanitarian aid in an historic effort to open up a humanitarian corridor in the Gaza strip.

As its former ambassadors, we urge the EU to sanction Israel now- Europe must not let Gaza become the graveyard of international law and human rights. STATEMENT by Former EU and Member State Ambassadors and Senior Officials

Amid mounting concern about the remorseless attacks by Israel against the civilian population in Gaza, which, since October 7, 2023, have reportedly led to the deaths and injuries of over 227,000 Palestinians and the displacement, in the last two weeks, of more than 400,000 people, 325 former European Union and Member State Ambassadors and Senior Officials are calling for urgent action.

We strongly urge the EU to immediately impose targeted sanctions on the Israeli government and suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement. In addition, we urge the President of the United Nations General Assembly and the Chair of the United Nations Security Council to convene emergency meetings of both bodies to adopt sanctions against Israel for the multiple violations of international law being perpetrated daily against the people of Palestine. The United Nations, being the established global body for peace and security, must live up to its responsibilities.

We cannot stand idly by, watching Gaza reduced to rubble and its inhabitants driven into destitution and starvation. The issue is whether the EU and like-minded nations will stand up for basic humanity and for the values that underpin the post-war international order. Action needs to be taken urgently to preserve life, end the military onslaught in Gaza, secure the return of all hostages, and move to governance arrangements that allow for a swift return of the Palestinian Authority to Gaza as a necessary step towards a unified and democratically elected Palestinian government.

We demand that EU leaders respond urgently to the fact that, in recent days, the actions of the Israeli army have escalated to another level, with the bombardment of Gaza City in pursuit of the openly declared Israeli government policy of clearing the population out of the city and forcing the displacement of a million and a half people within or even outside the territory.

In addition, an engineered, man-made famine is unfolding in Gaza, already affecting 500,000 people. Severe malnutrition is rife, and more than 130 children have starved to death, despite the International Court of Justice’s provisional findings in February 2024 in the case brought against Israel, which required all States to take action to ensure that adequate humanitarian supplies reach Gaza. Finally, Israel has blatantly ignored the United Nations General Assembly Resolution of September 18, 2024 calling for an end to its illegal occupation of Gaza and the West Bank, instead doubling down by annexing additional swathes of Palestinian territory.

While noting the European Commission’s newly announced proposals for limited measures against Israel, our conviction is that the EU’s institutions and its Member States must act far more decisively to uphold international law and protect human rights, notably by suspending the EU-Israel Association Agreement, ceasing the export and import of arms and military equipment, banning imports from Israel’s illegal settlements, restricting access to EU co-financed programmes, and urging Israel’s other key trade partners, including in the Global South, to follow suit. They must also impose immediate targeted sanctions on Israel’s political and military leadership and all those complicit in and responsible for war crimes, ensuring accountability.

In addition, we urge the 13 EU Member States that have not yet done so to join both the 147 UN Member States who have already recognised the State of Palestine, and those who have announced they will do so at the ongoing United Nations General Assembly meeting, including France, Belgium, Malta, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Furthermore, the EU must demonstrate political and diplomatic leadership within all UN bodies and in partnerships with the Global South, Arab States and regional powers, to pressure Israel into compliance with its international obligations.

It must also support and strengthen the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, the key platform for a sustainable political solution allowing Palestinians and Israelis to coexist in peace and security, and demand that the US rescind decisions preventing official representatives of Palestine and the UN from engaging in dialogue at the United Nations General Assembly.

The heinous attacks of 7 October 2023 by Hamas and others against Israeli citizens, along with the continuing detention of hostages, can never justify the retribution wreaked on Gaza, which is becoming the graveyard of international law and universal human rights. Reckless military assaults of the type committed by Israel on the sovereign territory of Qatar, a key player in ceasefire talks, together with the lack of effective action, will condemn generations of both Palestinians and Israelis to perpetual suffering and continue to destabilise the region and beyond. It is incumbent on all of us, as global citizens, to demand from our leaders nothing less than the full application of international law. The time to act is now.

"The absolute incapacity of Western leaders to enforce international law when it comes to Israel is EPIC..." Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur oPt

Francesca Albanese, UN Special Rapporteur oPt

The absolute incapacity of Western leaders to enforce intl law when it comes to Israel is EPIC.

Ministers, Prime Ministers, Presidents of Republic: Doing NOTHING, diverting attention, sanctioning individual ministers IS NOT enforcing the intl law that was developed after the Holocaust and WWII to prevent another Holocaust and WWII.

At this critical point, Your states have a CLEAR obligation to:

1. Sanction Israel

2. Impose a total arms embargo (no buy, no sell, no transfer, direct or indirect)

3. Break the siege (send navies instead of dropping food on the head of starving genocide survivors)

4. Suspend all trade agreements with Israel till the end of the genocide, occupation and apartheid.

5. Investigate and prosecute individuals and orgs that have committed crimes in the oPt. Together we can, and we will.

Francesca Albanese is saying what far too many in power refuse to: this isn’t a diplomatic failure. It’s a moral collapse. International law was meant to prevent atrocities like this, not be selectively enforced. The time for statements has passed. Action is now a legal and moral obligation.

Killing of young siblings at Gaza water point shows seeking life’s essentials now a deadly peril. Karam al-Ghussain, 9, and Lulu, 10, were fetching water from a nearby distribution station when an Israeli strike hit it, and them

Karam and Lulu al-Ghussain were their family’s designated water carriers because it seemed less dangerous than searching for food.

In Gaza, being a helpful, loving child can be a death sentence. Heba al-Ghussain’s nine-year-old son, Karam, was killed by an Israeli airstrike because he went to fetch water for the family, and her 10-year-old daughter, Lulu, was killed because she went to give Karam a hand.

The siblings were waiting beside a water distribution station, holding jerry cans and buckets, when it was bombed last Sunday, killing six children and four adults and injuring 19 others, mostly children.

Both Lulu and Karam died instantly, torn apart by the force of the blast and so disfigured that their father prevented Heba from seeing their bodies.

“They didn’t allow me to say goodbye or even look at them one last time,” she said. “One of my brothers hugged me, trying to block the scene from me as he cried and tried to comfort me. After that, I don’t remember anything. I lost touch with reality.”

Lulu al-Ghussain (left) with her elder sister.
Lulu’s real name was Lana but her parents rarely used it because her nickname, which means pearl, captured the gentle shine she brought to family life. “She had such a joyful personality, and a heart full of kindness,” Heba said.

Karam was smart, always top of his class until Israeli attacks shut down Gaza’s schools, generous and mature beyond his years. His dad, Ashraf al-Ghussain, called him “abu sharik” or “my partner”, because he seemed “like a man in spirit”.

But he was also enough of a child to be obsessed by a remote-controlled car that he begged his mother to buy. She regrets telling him they needed to save money for food. “I wish I had spent everything I had to buy it for him so he could have played with it before he died.”

Both children also dreamed of the day Israel would lift its blockade of Gaza, so they could taste chocolate, instant noodles and their mum’s best dishes. For Lulu that was the Palestinian chicken dish musakhan, for Karam, shawarma. “They had all kinds of food plans for me to prepare,” Heba said.

Israel imposed a total siege for 11 weeks starting in March that brought Gaza to the brink of famine, and the very limited food, fuel and medical supplies allowed in since May have not relieved extreme hunger.

Unprecedented malnutrition is killing children, and preventing injured people recovering, a British doctor working there said this week.

Trying to get food has been a deadly gamble for months, with more than 800 people killed since late May in near daily attacks by Israeli soldiers using weapons including tank shells and navy cannon to target desperate crowds near food distribution points.

Trying to get clean water is also a struggle... READ MORE  https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/jul/19/killing-of-young-siblings-at-gaza-water-point-shows-seeking-lifes-essentials-now-a-deadly-peril?CMP=GTUK_email

Families in Gaza are in desperate need. When trying to retrieve the limited food that the Israeli authorities have permitted to enter, they have been shot at and crushed by trucks. The UN calls for investigations into the killing and injury of Palestinians trying to access food through the current food distribution in Gaza. Lift the siege now. Aid delivery must be safe, dignified, and accessible to all. Let the UN, including UNRWA, do the work.

Madleen Kolab of Palestine, became known as the first and youngest professional fisherwoman in the Gaza Strip... Freedom Flotilla's ship 'Madleen' headed to Gaza - humanitarian aid and nonviolent action STOPPED by Israel

"Perhaps everyone has heard the story of the ship “Madleen”, which sailed from the island of Sicily heading toward the Gza Strip on a bold mission to break the siege imposed on it. But has anyone asked why the ship was named “Madleen”?

The ship was named in honor of a PaIestinian woman from Gaza named Madleen Kolab, who became known as the first and youngest professional fisherwoman in the Strip.

Madleen began fishing at an early age to support her family amidst economic and social challenges and the ongoing blockade.

Accompanying her father—an experienced fisherman—on his trips from the age of six, from him she learned the basics of the trade, such as swimming, casting nets, and handling boats.

At the age of thirteen, her father fell seriously ill, rendering him unable to work. As the eldest daughter, Madleen took on the responsibility of managing the fishing boat and supporting her family.

The Gza Strip has been under a severe blockade since 2007, which limited the area fishermen could access to just 3–6 nautical miles (down from 20 pre-2007), drastically reducing the available fish stock and affecting livelihoods. Braving these restrictions at times put her life in danger.

In 2016, Israel confiscated her father’s boat and equipment...But Madleen did not give up—she rented an alternative engine to operate a tourist boat and continued fishing.

She took full responsibility for supporting her family and her father’s medical treatment.[Because of the restricted fishing area], she would only catch about 3 kilograms of fish daily, which sold for around 30 shekels (about $8 at the time).

Despite these heavy responsibilities, Madleen continued her studies alongside her fishing work.

Achieving what was an unconventional livelihood for women, Madleen sought to pass on her experience to other girls. She organized workshops to teach girls fishing and net-making, and established a women’s fishing club to support women working at sea and the wives of fishermen, encouraging women to take on this experience.

After the outbreak of war on the Strip in October 2023, Madleen lost both her father and her livelihood, compounding her struggles and hardship.

The story of Madleen Kolab embodies the spirit of civil resistance and determination to live...Today, her name sails aboard the ship “Madleen” to shed light on the suffering of our people and to support the effort to break the siege."

#BreakingTheSiege is a legal duty for states, and a moral imperative for all of us.

Israel’s military campaign in Gaza is among the deadliest and most destructive worldwide since World War II: Israel's violence and restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid have created a huge humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

Listen to some of the #FreedomFlotilla Coalition volunteers share why our nonviolent action is critical, just before they boarded the #Madleen in Catania. Keep track of our vessel and friends as they sail to #Gaza via #MarineTraffic or our website. Tag your Foreign Ministries to ensure that they safeguard the 'Madleen', and end their active participation in Israel's genocide and siege of Gaza. #BreakIsraelsSiege #EndTheBlockade #Madleen #FreedomFlotilla #HuwaidaArraf #GretaThunberg #DrMo #YasmineAcar #ThiagoAvila #IsraelonNotice

Madleen 2025 ...
The #Governments of the 12 activists that have been kidnapped by #Israelis aboard the #Gaza bound aid ship #FreedomFlottila #Madleen need to demand their immediate release. Stopping this #UK ship in #InternationalWater & stealing everything on board is ILLEGAL. #IsraelIsInsane!

Israel is making fun of the world. They are deporting the Madleen crew from Israel as if the crew was heading to Israel.

These individuals were heading to Gaza.

They were in international waters.

To attack the boat at night while carrying guns and to take them to a place they were not heading to is called “kidnapping.”

And to force them to sign deportation documents or go to a detention center? What is this called?
