The Power of BDS: Our Impact So Far In 2026 ... DIVESTING from Genocide

To mark 21 years of the BDS movement here is just a sampling of the remarkable BDS impacts achieved in the first half of 2026 — proof that organizing strategically and acting collectively can bring us closer to ending Israel's genocide and dismantling its regime of settler-colonial apartheid against Palestinians.  The Power of BDS: Our Impact So Far In 2026

Despite the continuing unspeakable grief over the ongoing genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in Gaza, the seeds of our collective struggle are bearing fruit. The Palestinian people's miraculous sumud and popular resistance, combined with your sustained solidarity, has pushed Israel's settler-colonial apartheid regime into the deepest isolation of its 78-year history.

We are witnessing tangible proof that BDS is working—our movement, active in some 130 countries, is effectively changing policies, making complicit corporations pay a dear price, and building the international pressure that will ultimately bring justice.

The recent wave of sanctions, divestments, and boycott impacts demonstrates what happens when people of conscience refuse to be complicit in genocide. From Spain and Belgium to Indonesia and California, from academic halls to cultural institutions, from trade unions to city councils and beyond — we can see the concrete results of our pressure.

Below is just a sampling of the remarkable BDS impacts achieved in the first half of 2026 — proof that organizing strategically and acting collectively can bring us closer to ending Israel's genocide and dismantling its regime of settler-colonial apartheid.... Buying Time for Genocide ...

[March 2025] As Israel ramps up its attacks on Gaza, VP's latest visual exposes how the U.S. and Israel never really wanted a ceasefire. They worked together for months to block international efforts to end the genocide, all while the U.S. continued to supply Israel with weapons.  https://visualizingpalestine.org/visual/buying-time-for-genocide/

Stolen Steps: Child Amputees in Gaza

[April, 2025] This visual created in partnership with Defense for Children International – Palestine (DCIP), tells the stories of children whose lives and limbs have been stolen by Israel in its years-long siege of Gaza, and how Israel’s targeted destruction of Gaza’s healthcare system makes it impossible for them to access much-needed medical supplies and rehabilitation services.   https://visualizingpalestine.org/visual/stolen-steps/

BDS commemorates 37 years since the beginning of the 1st Palestinian Intifada of 1987... TAKE #nonviolent ACTION

Sunday, 8th December:

  • We commemorate 37 years since the beginning of the 1st Palestinian Intifada of 1987. A collective and inclusive movement spread from Gaza across historic Palestine calling for boycotts, strikes, and popular resistance to end Israel's military occupation and colonial rule.

“Today we confront the most brutal phase of Israel’s 76-year-old regime of settler colonialism and apartheid. This is manifested in a genocide perpetrated against our people in Gaza, which is funded, armed and shielded from accountability by the colonial West, led by the US. Also corporations and institutions that continue business-as-usual with apartheid Israel are  complicit in apartheid and genocide. In the spirit of the Palestinian Intifada, we continue to steadfast, to resist oppression, and we shall eventually overcome. We call on people of conscience worldwide to mobilize to end all forms of state, corporate and institutional complicity with Israel. Together, we shall prevail and build towards a better humanity.” - Mahmoud Nawajaa, BNC General Coordinator.

 Monday, 9th December:

The International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of this Crime.

For over a year, we have been sharing the images, stories and ghastly statistics of the rising number of Palestinians killed, burned, starved, displaced, and fallen sick by Israel’s devastating genocide in Gaza. We have been calling for and enacting pressure on states and international institutions to fulfill the bare minimum of their legal obligation to end complicity by imposing lawful, targeted sanctions on Israel.

On 5th December, 2024 the world’s largest human rights organization, Amnesty International, added its voice to states, UN experts, and thousands of legal scholars and historians who have reached the same conclusion. Amnesty found that, based on policies, actions, and omissions since 7 October, 2023, Israel is committing genocide against 2.3 million Palestinians in besieged and occupied Gaza. It  called on states to impose targeted and lawful sanctions on apartheid Israel.

Tuesday, 10th December:

  • On the UN Human Rights Day, in the spirit of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, we call on our supporters to heed the Palestinian call for action. Adopted only days after the UN passed the illegal and unethical Plan of Partition of Palestine 76 years ago, the Declaration has been systematically violated by Israel throughout its existence as a settler-colonial apartheid state.

Let's organize across these dates, peacefully disrupting business-as-usual with Israel, amplifying Palestinian demands in your mobilizations, and helping us grow the power of the BDS movement  to stop Israel’s genocide in Gaza and dismantle its regime of settler-colonial apartheid.

TAKE ACTION:

1. PRESSURE YOUR GOVERNMENT TO IMPOSE SANCTIONS ON ISRAEL, INCLUDING A COMPREHENSIVE MILITARY EMBARGO.

2. TAKE TO THE STREETS TO PRESSURE GOVERNMENTS TO END COMPLICITY.

3. FOCUS ON BDS PRIORITY TARGETS AND CAMPAIGNS.

4. DEMAND THE IMMEDIATE SUSPENSION OF APARTHEID ISRAEL FROM THE UN.

Colleges should not be using students' tuition money to invest in companies supporting Israel's war in Gaza... "I Am a Jewish Student at Columbia. Don’t Believe What You’re Being Told About ‘Campus Antisemitism’. Smears from the press and pro-Israel influencers are a dangerous distraction from real threats to our safety."

Student activists have been calling for universities to "divest from genocide".

I Am a Jewish Student at Columbia. Don’t Believe What You’re Being Told About ‘Campus Antisemitism’

Smears from the press and pro-Israel influencers are a dangerous distraction from real threats to our safety.

“Reprehensible and dangerous.” “Terrorist sympathizers.” “It’s not 1938 Berlin. It’s 2024, Columbia University, NYC.”

The White House, Congressional Republicans, and cable news talking heads would have you believe that the Columbia University campus has devolved into a hotbed of antisemitic violence – but the reality on the ground is very different. As a Jewish student at Columbia, it depresses me that I have to correct the record and explain what the real risk to our safety looks like. I still can't quite believe how the events on campus over the past few days have been so cynically and hysterically misrepresented by the media and by our elected representatives.

Last week, the Columbia University Apartheid Divest (CUAD) coalition, representing more than 100 student organizations, including Jewish groups, organized the Gaza Solidarity Encampment, a peaceful campus protest in solidarity with Palestine. CUAD was reactivated after the university suspended Students for Justice in Palestine and Jewish Voice for Peace in the fall. On Wednesday morning, hundreds of students camped out on Columbia’s South Lawn. They vowed to stay put until the university divests from companies that profit from their ties to Israel. Protesters prayed, chanted, ate pizza, and condemned the university’s complicity in Israel’s attacks on Gaza. Though counter-protesters waved Israeli flags near the encampment, the campus remained largely calm from my vantage point.

Columbia responded by imposing a miniature police state. Just over a day after the encampment was formed, university President Minouche Shafik asked and authorized the New York Police Department to clear the lawn and load 108 students – including a number of Jewish students – onto Department of Corrections buses to be held at NYPD headquarters at 1 Police Plaza. One Jewish student told me that she and her fellow protesters were restrained in zip-tie handcuffs for eight hours and held in cells where they shared a toilet without privacy. The NYPD chief of patrol John Chell later told the Columbia Spectator that “the students that were arrested were peaceful, offered no resistance whatsoever, and were saying what they wanted to say in a peaceful manner.”

Since then, dozens of undergraduates have been locked out of their dorms without notice. Barnard College, an affiliate of Columbia, notably gave students just 15 minutes to retrieve their belongings after returning from lockup and finding themselves evicted. Suspended students cannot return to campus and are struggling to access food or medical care. Students who keep Shabbat, and do not use electronics on the Sabbath, were forced to rely on technology in order to secure food and emergency housing. This crackdown was the most violence inflicted on our student body in decades. I implore you, as our Jewish Voice for Peace chapter does, to consider whether arresting Jewish students keeps us and Columbia safe.

The Philly Palestine Coalition, CAIR, and Jewish Voice for Peace Rally for Justice & Peace: DIVEST FROM GENOCIDE

On February 5, hundreds of members of CAIR, the Philly Palestine Coalition, and JVP, along with Arab and Muslim community members and allies from across Pennsylvania rallied at the Capitol in Harrisburg to demand the state divest from genocide and invest in our communities.

As hundreds rallied and marched outside, hundreds occupied the main Rotunda steps in the Pennsylvania Capitol Building to demand the state divest from Israeli bonds and invest in Pennsylvania.

State troopers and other police agencies took over a hundred demonstrators away with their hands zip-tied, later releasing them with citations.

As Pennsylvanians, we work hard every day to invest in our communities and improve the lives of our families and neighbors–and our government should do the same.

But instead of investing in improving our communities, Pennsylvania elected officials are giving into special interests by investing our tax dollars in genocide and war by irresponsibly investing millions in Israel Bonds.

The Pennsylvania Treasury recently invested an additional $20 million of taxpayer dollars in Israel Bonds–bringing the total amount invested to $56 million.

This money directly enables the Israeli military and government to commit genocide of Palestinians and oppress Palestinians by upholding a brutal, separate-and-unequal apartheid system. The Israeli military has used these funds to kill over 25,000 Palestinians in this recent genocidal assault, with half being children. Pennsylvanians want our government to invest in our communities–not genocide and war.

Pennsylvania State Treasurer Stacy Garrity unilaterally made the decision to invest an additional $20 million in genocide and war via Israel Bonds, shortly after joining a financial advisory board for the Israel Bonds corporation. Stacy Garrity should invest in improving the lives of our communities–not gambling our taxpayer money to appease special interest groups.

Pennsylvania State Treasurer Stacy Garrity’s decision to invest public funds in Israel Bonds is both ethically and fiscally indefensible. Not only is an investment in Israel Bonds an investment in genocide of Palestinians–it’s a terrible investment of taxpayer money.

Pennsylvania State Treasurer Stacy Garrity should invest taxpayer money in our communities–not in genocide of Palestinians and war.

Pennsylvania troopers handcuff protesters calling for end to state investments in Israel

The sign says DIVEST FROM GENOCIDE-INVEST IN PA
Dozens of protesters, calling on the state to divest itself of Israel, entered the Pennsylvania Capitol on Monday.

The protesters, many of whom wore masks and black T-shirts emblazoned with the words "Divest From Genocide," started their protest outside. But sometime after noon, they entered the main rotunda, temporarily blocking the main stairs and some access points.

When members of the crowd were told they needed to leave immediately and that the protest was now an unlawful assembly, they cheered.

Eventually, Pennsylvania state troopers removed those gathered, handcuffing them with zip ties as others chanted, "Free, free, free Palestine."

Before entering the Capitol, organizers called on the Pennsylvania Treasurer to stop investing money in Israel.

In October, Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced that her department would be investing $20 million in Israeli bonds---for a total of $56.4 million in Israeli investment. An additional $8 million is invested in securities with companies based in Israel.... READ MORE  https://www.wgal.com/article/protesters-enter-pennsylvania-capitol/46650909
