Masked Israeli settlers attacked and injured a Palestinian woman and members of an NBC News team reporting in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on Saturday.

Three members of an NBC team were interviewing Aida Ahmed Abdullah and her family in the Palestinian town of Jalud, near Nablus, when the attack occurred. Abdullah said they had been driven out of their home by Israeli settlers, and the team was walking down a hill toward the house.

A gray car with Israeli license plates then drove in reverse up the hill toward them, video of the incident shows.

A masked man in a blue tracksuit, holding a stick, was leaning out of the rear passenger window as the vehicle approached. When the car stopped, at least four men in dark clothes and with their faces covered leaped out, hitting Abdullah and the crew with sticks and throwing rocks at them.

“They jumped out, beat us, then jumped back in the car,” said NBC News international correspondent Matt Bradley, who was hit twice in the arm and later treated at a nearby clinic.... Gaza remains unsafe for civilians as Israeli attacks continue, including on schools and canvas classrooms, despite the October Israel-Hamas ceasefire that ended two years of war, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned on Tuesday.

“Today in Gaza City, our partners reported that a sixth-grade student was taken to the hospital after being hit by a bullet and injured in a tented classroom,” UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said, highlighting a spate of school shootings and attacks in Occupied Palestinian Territory, from Gaza to the West Bank.

“We stress that under international humanitarian law, civilians and civilian infrastructure must be protected and should not be targeted,” he said.

“Learning spaces must remain safe and protected environments for both students and teachers.”

Homes, school razed

Following a war that left most of Gaza damaged or destroyed, UN partners are reporting fresh attacks on civilian infrastructure. 

Mr. Haq said humanitarian partners had already mobilised support for those displaced after Israeli forces reportedly demolished homes and the last remaining school in what was previously a four-school compound in Beit Lahia as well as tents sheltering nearly a dozen families.

Israeli troops also placed new cement blocks nearby, marking a further expansion of restricted areas beyond the terms of the October ceasefire.

Since then, Israeli attacks have led to 1,209 fatalities and 3,943 injuries in Gaza.

West Bank demolitions 

Across the occupied West Bank meanwhile, more than 80 Palestinian schools are currently subject to demolition or related orders, the UN Deputy Spokesperson said.

Israeli authorities demolished parts of a school in the Masafer Yatta area of southern Hebron, where more than 1,000 Palestinian residents are under pressure to leave, he said.

“So far this year, our education partners have reached more than 60,000 students in the West Bank through remedial and catch-up learning programmes,” Mr. Haq said.

Efforts have rehabilitated 30 schools, provided transportation assistance and other protective measures to more than 2,600 students and education personnel in high-risk areas and delivered education-specific cash assistance, psychosocial support and legal aid, Mr. Haq said.

He emphasised that funding remains critically low.

At the bottom of a steep and densely populated valley just below Jerusalem’s old city walls, the earth has been shaken in recent weeks by jackhammers and bulldozers.

These have been the sounds of Jerusalem for decades as the Israeli state has relentlessly sought to stamp a uniformly Jewish identity on to the occupied east of the city, while erasing its Palestinian character.

Typically it is workers for the state and municipality at the wheel of the bulldozers, but in the al-Bustan neighbourhood, in the shadow of the 11th-century al-Aqsa mosque, the clamour is from a more recent development.

It is the sound of Palestinians demolishing their own family homes.

Al-Bustan: red dots mark homes already demolished and green those with existing demolition orders.

“This is something really hard. This is something bitter,” Jalal al-Tawil said as he watched a tractor he had hired, with a front loader at the front and jackhammer at the back, rip apart the last remnants of the house his father had built, which in turn had been on the site of his grandparents’ home.

By Wednesday morning, most of the walls had been brought down to their foundations and the rubble pushed into a single pile. Al-Tawil left the thick knotty root of a 35-year-old grapevine until last.

“It used to provide grapes for all of al-Bustan,” he said. The spring vine leaves had already sprouted along the trellis above him, but he was resigned to the fact they would never again bear fruit.... Let’s take a deep breath and, for one moment, forget about Donald Trump, Jimmy Kimmel, the UN, Charlie Kirk, Gaza, a government shutdown and the other crises that we face.

Let’s talk instead about the reality which the corporately-controlled media and the corporately-controlled political system don’t talk about very much.

What we are witnessing right now is the rise of two Americas. One for the billionaire class. And one for everybody else.

In one America, the richest people are becoming obscenely richer and have never, ever, had it so good. That America is overflowing with unimaginable wealth, greed and opulence that makes the Gilded Age seem very modest.

And then there is a second America – an America where a majority of people live paycheck to paycheck, struggling to secure the very basic necessities of life – food, healthcare, housing and education.

So very shocking to see the pictures and hear the news about our Pennsylvania Governor's Mansion being attacked and set on fire. That must have been a terrifying time for Gov. Shapiro and his family.

I suspect it was attempted murder, and thank heavens he and his family are safe.

I don't think racist hate was the motive.  I think it was mental illness... Please do not let this tragic situation became a reason for more people to be treated more unequally, with more Palestinians and Palestinian Americans being doxed, destroyed, and displaced.

Racist hate is evil and wrong.  Universally wrong. Doesn't matter who or where racist hate happens: Israeli, Palestinian, American- we are all born equal, although we don't all grown up in a world that treats us as equals.

Violence and war only make the world more insecure and dangerous. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was carefully written and adopted in 1948 in response to the horrors of the Nazi Holocaust.  It is the basis for international law and enlightenment.  

Did you know that between 1947 and 1949, Zionist military forces attacked major Palestinian cities and destroyed 530 Palestinian villages. Many Palestinians were killed in a series of mass atrocities, and many many more were forcibly displaced. We did not have cell phones and social media then but we do now, and we know that Israel continues to violently destroy Palestinian homes and lives.

Please don't add fuel to that fire.

When I first heard that President Donald Trump was making comments about the future of Gaza, I was in New York City, at a special screening celebrating the new season of my friend Mo Amer’s Netflix show, “Mo.” Then another friend texted me: “Hideous Trump press conference in which he says America will take over Gaza. We’ll talk tomorrow.” I was shocked. But whom would the United States take Gaza from? Israeli forces levelled entire neighborhoods and then withdrew. My friend Ahmad, from Beit Hanoun, in northern Gaza, told me that people have returned to their neighborhoods not to resume their old lives but “to live over the rubble of their houses.” But even the rubble in Gaza has meaning to us.
