My letter to the Washington Post RE Richard Cohen's It takes a village to humanize the Israeli-Palestinian conflict

Dear Editor,

Regarding humanizing the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and Richard Cohen's exploration of the documentary "Budrus" ... Well at least he looked- and at least he tried to understand and explain the situation as best as he could. There is only so much one man can do. Will the documentary (and subsequent commentaries and criticisms and spin) help inspire support for a real Palestinian state living in peace alongside Israel- or will it help prolong the Israel-Palestine conflict as every side clamors to make itself heard, with various extremists, petty tyrants, religious wackos, bigots and hate mongers sure that their side alone will win?

A moderate start towards a just and lasting peace has to be Israel ending its invasion projects and its illegal occupation of Palestinian land. Israel, already sovereign and strong, needs to stay within its own borders and it needs to invest in fair and just laws respecting the basic human rights of all people, regardless of supposed race, religion, or nationality.... so too should Palestine.

Sincerely,
Anne Selden Annab
